Rose Kreft, age 97 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at West View Care Center in Britt, IA. Rose Eileen Schnirring was born on May 7, 1923, to parents Milton and Eva (Hollah) Schnirring in Sac County, IA. Rose was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She attended country school as a young child and then high school in Lytton where she graduated from with the Class of 1940. Rose then went on to the University of Northern Iowa’s Teaching College where she obtained her teaching degree.
On January 19, 1954, Rose was united in marriage to Oscar Duane Kreft, Jr. at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. This union was blessed with a son, Oscar Milton. Together they raised their son on a farm in Sac County. Rose worked as an Art Teacher in Sac City all of her adult life until retiring in the 1980’s. She and Oscar Jr. moved off the farm and into town in 1981. Rose was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City.
Rose always had a large garden where she grew vegetables and would later can them. She absolutely loved cooking and others enjoyed eating the delicious food she made. Rose also loved flowers and growing them in the spring and summer. She judged flowers at the Sac County Fair for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, sewing, and painting/crafting. Over the years she made so many beautiful pieces not just for herself but for family members and friends as well. Rose also enjoyed volunteering in her community.
Rose’s family meant the world to her. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and getting to watch them grow up. The family lake house in Lake View holds a lot of special memories of gatherings with friends and family. Rose was certainly a special person who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Oscar (Sue) Kreft of Sac City, IA; grandchildren Brent Kreft of Lake View, IA, Brock Kreft of Lake View, IA, Brittany (Chad) Scarberry of North Liberty, IA; great-grandchildren Jace, Breckyn, and Bronson Scarberry; many extended family members and friends.
