Cordis Merle Bechler, age 74, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at his home in Sac City. Cordis was born on January 6, 1940, to Merle Dell and Neva Grace (Ellis) Bechler in Sac City, IA. He graduated from Sac City High School in 1958 and continued his studies at the University of Iowa and Bozeman, Montana.
On August 7, 1960 Cordis was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Rinas in Marion, IA, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They celebrated over 53 years of marriage. This union was also blessed with three wonderful daughters: Shelly Lynn Bechler (Jim) Chipman of Buhl, ID, Corinne Annette Bechler Hinrichs of Spanaway, WA, and YaVonne JoAnne Bechler of Three Forks, MT.
Cordis worked for the University of Iowa in Iowa City as a glazer for many years. He retired in 1981 and pursued his hobby of woodworking and knife making. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spending time with friends and family. He was a great story teller and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Sac City.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Sac City; three daughters; five grandchildren: Pari Lynn Chipman of Idaho; Elijah C. J. Bechler Chipman of Buhl, ID; Jess Ronald Hinrichs of Washington; Carley Ann Hinrichs of Spanaway, WA; and Edward Francis Gallagher III of Anacortes, WA; great-grandchildren: Tristen Chipman; Lillyana and Maya Kelsey; Conner Kelsey Chipman; and Ryker Joseph Avelar. Other survivors include his sisters: Colleen Hampton of Knoxville, IA, Caralyn (John) Meng of Prairie du Chien, WI, and Ann (Virgil) Johnson of Sac City; many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
