Debra Tjaden, age 67 of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Debra Marie Tjaden was born on April 18, 1953 to parents Farrell and June (Wiese) Tjaden in Sac City, Iowa. Debra was a lifetime member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View.
Debra grew up in Lake View where she attended Lake View Elementary School. She graduated in 1971 from Lake View-Auburn High School and went on to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1975. Debra was a natural with children, making her a favorite babysitter, a gifted Sunday School teacher, and beloved aunt. Barely in her twenties, she became the first female telephone lineman in the area and she continued to work in the field her whole life, retiring in 2010 from Windstream Communications. Her deep interest in local history then led her to join the Lake View Historical Society and contribute a great deal of interesting research.
Debra was especially devoted to her family, serving as its chief record keeper and foremost genealogist. She also had a real sense of occasion, creating elaborate Halloween costumes for her niece and nephews, planning Easter egg hunts and making Christmas extra special with thoughtful gifts and surprises. She will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.
Debra leaves behind her brothers: Steve (Mary Ann) Tjaden and Bruce Tjaden, both of Lake View; niece Stefanie (Josh) Lawrence of London, England; nephews Nicholas (Michelle) Tjaden of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Aaron Tjaden of Marion, Iowa; great-nieces and nephews: Magnolia, Abraham, Trice, Oliver, Emory and Jack; many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Farrell and June Tjaden.
