Rich “Barney” Barnett, age 52 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, IA, after a courageous fought battle with cancer. Richard Allen Barnett was born on March 11, 1967, in Atlantic, IA, to parents Rex and Marjorie Schneider (Odle). He grew up and went to grade school there and graduated from Atlantic High School with the Class of 1985.
Rich enlisted into the National Guard while still in high school in 1984 and served for nineteen years. During that time he was a Transportational Operator, a mechanic, and an Ammo Section Chief.
On June 23, 2007, Rich married the love of his life, Jessica Radloff, in Lake View, IA. Together, they shared six children: Kyle, Tatum, Tanner, Tyne, Trey, and Tabor. Rich and Jesse bought a house and moved to Sac City in 2011. He was a truck driver for Goettsch Dispatch out of Galva, IA.
Rich loved being outside and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He liked to build things and was very handy that way. Rich was a great cook and loved using his smoker to smoke food. He was very involved with his family. He always made sure to attend their school and sporting events.
Rich enjoyed listening to 70’s music as well as country. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers and made it a point to watch them on TV whenever he could. He could light up a room with his upbeat attitude and was always sure to add in some sarcasm. Rich wore his heart on his sleeve and anyone who knew him would agree. At the same time, if you knew Rich, you would also know that he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind if he saw fit. Rich’s smile, laugh, and genuinely caring ways will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left behind to cherish Rich’s memory include his wife Jessica Barnett of Sac City; children: Kyle (Shiloh) Barnett of Des Moines, IA, Tatum (Chom) Thammavongsa of Early, IA, Tanner Hardman of Wall Lake, IA, and Tyne, Trey and Tabor Barnett of Sac City; brother Gene (Patty) Barnett of Storm Lake, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Marjorie Schneider; grandparents George and Imo Odle; and brother Greg Barnett.
