Gary “Tapper” Manthe, age 64 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA, surrounded by his family. Gary Lynn Manthe was born on April 6, 1955, in Sac City, IA, to parents George and Stella (Miller) Manthe. He was baptized in the Methodist faith. He and his three brothers were raised in Sac City where they all attended school. Gary graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1973.
After graduating, Gary worked as an electrician for several years and later on as a welder and machinist. He was a handyman, for sure. Gary was a simple man. His role as a jokester will not soon be forgotten. He loved to make people laugh. He was also a bit mischievous…but always in good fun. He had a decent sized collection of beer steins and liked adding to it over the years. Gary enjoyed working on cars and just cars in general. Being part of the pit crew with his buddies was always a good time and something he always looked forward to doing. He could also be found alongside the riverbank or lake fishing in his spare time.
The simple things brought Gary joy, but nothing brought him greater joy than his family. Shane, his son, and he were very close. He also had an adopted daughter, Heather. Gary was proud of all of his children and grandchildren. His mischievous ways, funny pranks, and quiet smiles will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include: son Shane Manthe (Lacie Rench) of Sac City, IA; adopted daughter Heather Remmick (Kerrin Meyer) of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Madison Manthe, Seth Manthe, Kylee Rench, Melodee Rench, Cameron (Crystal) Remmick, Chase Meyer, Colby Meyer; great-grandchild Keaton Remmick; brothers: Kenneth Manthe of Omaha, NE, Ronnie Manthe of Wichita, KS; aunts: Eileen Quinley of Leavenworth, KS, Edna (Norman) Moore of Vacaville, CA, Pauline (Dale) Peyton of Wall, TX, Freda (Dale) Meyer of Schaller, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George and Stella Manthe; brother Thomas Manthe; sisters-in-law Sherry Manthe and Rickie Manthe; many aunts and uncles.
