Charles H. Foy

Charles (Chuck) Hugh Foy, Jr. of Odebolt, Iowa passed away February 21, 2014, at Crawford County Hospital in Denison, Iowa. Charles was born to Charles and Patricia (Quinn) Foy on April 9, 1949 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He lived with his family in various places, and graduated from Central of Argyle High School in 1967.

He was united in marriage to Linda Leerar in 1968, at First Lutheran Church in Britt, Iowa. Into this union were born three daughters, Shannon, Erin, and Meagan. In their free time, Chuck and Linda shared a love for traveling, history, and reading. They also enjoyed any time spent with their daughters, grandchildren, great grandson, and close friends and family. Chuck was inducted into the United States Army in 1969 and served as an infantryman in Vietnam. He then served in the United States Army Reserve and retired with the rank of first sergeant in 1994.

Chuck attended North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, and University of Northern Iowa of Cedar Falls, graduating in 1975. He taught and coached at Graettinger, Iowa from 1975-1978. The family moved to Odebolt in 1978 where he taught Industrial Arts and coached. He also officiated for football, volleyball, and wrestling. Chuck also did a lot of carpentry work in the area. In 2001, after obtaining his Master's Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, he became the high school principal at Odebolt. In 2004, his duties expanded to include the O-A Middle School. Chuck was a strong advocate for education, serving on the Governor's Committee to set State Educational Standards and active in the School to Work program. He was a member of several professional organizations. Chuck also served as president of the Kiwanis in Odebolt, a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and commander of the Odebolt American Legion. Chuck served on the Sac County Central Republican Committee and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as trustee and holding offices in Trinity Lutheran's Fellowship Club. He served two terms on the Odebolt City Council and was a driver on the volunteer ambulance squad.

Those grieving his loss are his wife, Linda; daughter, Erin Hammond of Ida Grove; grandsons: Ethon Koenen (wife Megan and son Lelan) of Emmetsburg, Braeden Hammond, Cole Hammond, and granddaughter, Taylor Marshall of Ida Grove; two sisters and their husbands, Pam (Michael Kreitz) of Des Moines, and Patty (Dave Davis) of Perry; four brothers: Michael Foy of Fort Madison, Ed Foy (wife Kaye) of Indianola, Scott Foy of Indio, CA and John Foy (wife Connie) of Yucca Valley, CA; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
