Alvin “Rookie” Helgerson, age 62 of Lake View, IA, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, November 11, 2019. Alvin was born at Loring Hospital in Sac City on September 17, 1957, to parents Morton and Leona (Poen) Helgerson. He grew up in rural Lake View where he attended grade school and graduated from Lake View High school. After graduation, Alvin enlisted to serve his country in the Air Force as a C-5 electrician on August 19, 1975. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged on August 17, 1979.

   Upon his return, Alvin was united in marriage to Deanne on August 23, 1980. This union was blessed with two children: Jared and Amber. Alvin worked many positions at Hallett Materials for 40 years. He was an avid fisherman, through the summer time and ice fishing in the winter. Alvin had a passion for flying which led to him obtaining his private pilot license. He loved spending time with family, watching his children grow and becoming a grandparent. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Deanne Helgerson of Lake View, IA; children: Amber and husband Jon Soyer of Lake View, IA, Jared and wife Ashley Helgerson of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Jayda, Cayson, Paisley, Elizabeth and Landrie; brothers: Lloyd Helgerson and wife Julie of Carroll, IA, and Milton Helgerson and friend Deb of Pomeroy, IA.

   Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Helgerson, and sister Inez Veerhusen.
