Kenny Flink, age 85 of Sac City, IA, formerly of Ida Grove, IA, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side, on Friday, September 27, 2019, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, IA. Kenneth Eugene Flink was born on September, 13, 1934, to parents William and Stella (Amann) Flink in Sac County, IA. Kenny and his siblings were raised in Lake View where he attended school. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Lake View and remained a lifelong member of the church.
On July 12, 1954, Kenny was united in marriage to Karen Wallerstedt at the United Church of Christ in Lake View. This union was blessed with three daughters: Jan, Paula and Ellen. Kenny and Karen raised their family in Wall Lake. After the girls were grown and out on their own, they moved to Ida Grove, IA, where they remained until retirement. Over the years Kenny found himself doing many things for work, including welding, helping area farmers, working on cars and working at the gas station to name just a few…he was a laborer of many trades.
In his free time Kenny enjoyed watching football on TV as well as WWF Wrestling, and, as mentioned above, he always liked to tinker with cars/mechanics. As much as he enjoyed those things, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family. He was very proud of all of them and loved them all so much.
Kenny was a man who loved helping others. This was quite evident as over the years he sponsored and supported many people through AA. This organization was very near and dear to his heart in his later years. Kenny was very proud to be able to say he was thirty-one years sober. This was a huge accomplishment for him. He was able to help so many people over the years as he and they attended meetings. This group was like a second family to him.
Kenny’s big heart and caring ways will be genuinely missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Paula (John) Courter of Sac City, IA, Ellen (Bill) Tasler of Fort Dodge, IA, and ‘daughter by choice’ Margy Kerns of Yankton, SD; grandchildren: Heather Remmick (Kerrin Meyer), Shane Manthe (Lacie Rench), Karen Manthe, Shawn (Tessa) Tjaden, Jeffrey (Molly) Larson, Sarah Larson (Tonya) Goodall, Joe Tasler (Valerie Walburn), and Kenny Tasler (Jennifer Ferrell); great-grandchildren: Cameron (Crystal) Remmick, Chase Meyer, Colby Meyer, Serena Tjaden, Katrina Tjaden, Casey Herrig, River Zepp, Finn Larson, Madi Manthe, Seth Manthe, Chance Tasler, Jaxton Tasler, Kashton Tasler, Adrianna Tasler, Ryan McCrea, Riley and Caitlyn; great-great-grandchild Keaton Remmick; sister-in-law Pat Flink of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Tom (Sandi) Wallerstedt of Storm Lake, IA; many extended family members and friends.
