Marie Ausborn, age 95 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Marie Loretta Wiegand was born on December 26, 1923, to parents Louis and Marcella (Stratmann) Wiegand in Lavinia, IA. She grew up with her family on a farm in rural Sac City and attended Jackson Country School #5. Marie graduated from Sac City High School’s Class of 1941. She went on to Iowa State Teacher College from 1941-1942 and later attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA, where she graduated with her teaching degree in 1977. Marie was baptized in January of 1924 and confirmed on October 16, 1934, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City where she would become a lifelong member.
On June 11, 1945, Marie married the love of her life, Gerhard “Ozzie” Ausborn, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City, IA. This union was blessed with seven children: Dale, Donna, LuAnn, Darrell, Mary Lou, Kris, and Robert. Prior to getting married and starting a family, Marie taught country school. She and Ozzie raised their family in Lake City where she was a homemaker until her children were raised. Marie then taught kindergarten in Lake City for about fifteen years.
Marie’s faith in the Lord was always very deep. Over the years she served as a CCD teacher, lector, and on the St. Mary’s Guild. She was also an active member of the Friends of the Library in Sac City and served on the Park View Advocate Care Committee.
Marie had many hobbies and things she enjoyed doing in her spare time including playing cards, bridge club, sewing, was very artistic and especially enjoyed painting and working with ceramics. Marie and Ozzie had a genuine love of dancing and were quite good at it. Imagine the two of them doing the Jitterbug on the dancefloor back in the 50’s and 60’s, what great partners they made. The two of them also enjoyed traveling the world and were quite fond of their many trips to Germany. They were blessed to share 74 wonderful years together.
Marie was a faithful, kind, giving, family-oriented woman who will be fiercely missed by all who knew and loved her. “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone Lord, make me dwell in safety” Psalms 4:8. May she rest in peace.
