Edna Scherle, age 96 of Panora, IA, formerly of Lytton, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at The Lakeside Village in Panora, IA. Edna Alma Scherle was born on December 24, 1922, in Lytton, IA, to Karl and Katherine (Fisher) Hameister.  She graduated from Lytton High school and continued her education at Wartburg College.  While in college, Edna met her soul mate, Fred and they were soon known on campus as “Fredna” a nickname that many continued to call them for the next 63 years.

On December 22, 1944, Edna was united in marriage to Rev. Friedrich Adam Scherle at the Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton.  Edna was a woman of faith, had a passion for helping others and was a born caretaker.  Edna spent most of her adult life doing missionary work. In New Guinea, she taught school and trained young girls to be nurses in the community.  The Scherles’ served as missionaries in New Guinea for over 30 years.  During their years in New Guinea, Fred and Edna had three children, one of whom survived to adulthood, Frederick J. Scherle III.  When Fred and Edna retired from active ministry they moved to Edna’s childhood home in rural Lytton.  Edna was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Fred Scherle III and wife Nancy of Waukee, IA; grandchildren: Fred Scherle IV and wife Jenny and Nicole Scherle; great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Nicholas and Emily Scherle and along with grandchild Nicole Scherle and her Fiancé Scott Scheidel with twin great grandchildren due in November 2019; many extended family members and friends.

“Fred - I just heard of your mothers passing. What a dear lady. Mother held her in her heart as one of the dear people in her life. I was at your father's funeral with my parents Alfred and Bea - how beautiful it was. The last time I saw Edna was atmymothers funeral in Montgomery. How thankful I was that you brought her. I wish I had known ofEdnas passing as I certainly would have attempted to attend. Both of your parents had a deep love and appreciation from my parents. I heard so many stories, most of which included them. Condolences to you and your family.”

“Fred, we read your mom’s Obituary forwarded by Rita Jahnke. I remember your mom’s lovely dimpled smile and that she was a gracious hostess. Our sympathies on your loss.

I also remember you racing around KLS in a motored go- kart!
