D. Mark Hosteng, age 67 of Sac City, IA, passed away June 19, 2019, at Loring Hospital in Sac City after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  Mark was born February 28, 1952, in Sac City to Donald and Marjorie (Robson) Hosteng.  He attended Sac City grade school and graduated from Sac City High School in 1970, after which he attended college for four years. Mark was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City and later became a devoted member and elder. On October 25, 1975, Mark was united in marriage to Jan Rabe at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City.  Mark and Jan were blessed with two children.
     Mark was a successful business man and farmer, owning and operating several businesses during his working life.  The bulk of his work was dedicated to Hosteng Concrete and Gravel, Farmers Lumber Co., and Hosteng Farms, all family run businesses in the Sac City community.  In addition, he co-owned/managed Coon Valley Turkeys.
     In his free time Mark loved playing euchre and cribbage, was a board member at the Sac Country Club, enjoyed classic cars, Oliver tractors, horseback riding and most of all tending to his beloved cow/calf herd at the farm.  One of Mark’s greatest joys was playing with his grandchildren, telling jokes and pulling pranks.  Mark also cherished and looked forward to early morning chats with the coffee crew.
     Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of almost 44 years, Jan Hosteng; daughter Kari (Todd) Pottinger of Hastings, MN; son Travis (Sherry) Hosteng of Cambridge, IA; seven grandchildren: T.J., Zach, Alix, and Cate Pottinger, Drake, Addison, and Morgan Hosteng; brothers: Mike Hosteng of Council Bluffs, IA, Craig (Claire) Hosteng of Carmel, IN, Kirk (Cheri) Hosteng of Galesburg, IL, and Scott (Bryn) Hosteng of Sac City, IA; uncle Ed (Cindy) Robson of Arizona; stepmother Kathy Hosteng of Sac City, IA; and sister-in-law Char Rabe of Rochester, MN.  In addition, his many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
     Mark was preceded in death by his parents Don and Marge Hosteng; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law Mae and Eugene "Christy" Christian; father-in-law Melvin Rabe; and brother-in-law Leon Rabe.

     IN LIEU OF FLOWERS the family has requested memorials be directed to the Mark Hosteng Memorial Fund for donation to a charity dear to Mark’s heart.
