Norman Lee Gurney, Jr. age 64, of Fonda, IA, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the Newell Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Newell, IA.

   Norman was born on December 29, 1954, in Sac City to Norman Lee Gurney, Sr. and Virginia Mae (Quinn) Gurney.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. His parents lived in various places around the Sac County area, so Norman went to school at several different locations.  He finished his last two years of high school at Lytton, IA.

   Following graduation, Norman served his country in the United States Navy. He often spoke of being stationed in Australia. He loved it there simply because of the beautiful scenery that he was surrounded by.

   Norman worked for 35+ years at Tyson Foods in Storm Lake, IA.  He enjoyed taking things apart and was a scrap metal collector.  He also admired old cars and going to car shows.  Norman could always be counted on to help out in a time of need.  He loved his family and was especially close to his mother, with whom he lived with for many years. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

   Survivors include his daughter Tina Marie (Troy) Hueton of Lake City, IA; son Jason Lee Gurney of Virginia; sister Pamela Rae West of Fonda, IA; four grandchildren: Tanner Hueton, Peyton, Mitchell, and Olivia Gurney; uncle David Ewoldt of Sioux city, IA; niece Faith Ann Pearl; nephew Chad (Rosemary) O’Tool; great nephews: Devin O’Tool and Zachary Pearl; great nieces Rylee Pearl, Sarah Benkhadra and Marjorie O’Tool; great-grand niece Kyllian Huertz; many extended family members and friends.

   He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Quinn; daughter April Ann Gurney; aunts Shirley Redenius and Janice Buse; maternal grandparents Herbert and Lorraine Ewoldt; nephews: Jesse O’Tool and Jeffrey O’Tool.
