Zola Damm, age 100 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Zola Fern Von Ahn was born on March 1, 1919, to parents Walt and Sarah (Basler) Von Ahn in Yetter, IA.

   Zola and her siblings were raised in Yetter, IA, until a house fire moved them to Sac City.  She attended school in Lake City and graduated with the Class of 1937.

   On August 28, 1940, Zola married Clarence “Ollie” Damm in a double wedding with her cousin Margaret at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City.  This union was blessed with a son, Monte.  Zola and Ollie resided on the family farm in Breda, IA.  She moved to Sac City in 1984.  In her earlier years, Zola taught country school and would later work at Neumayer Locker for 29 years in Breda, IA.  Her love for sports (avid Iowa Hawkeye fan) also had her running the concession stand in the summers at the Breda baseball fields and the concession stand at the annual Von Ahn rodeo in Sac City.  She was a very hard worker and was not afraid to get her hands dirty.  She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City.  Zola was amazing with a ball of yarn and either knitting needles or a crochet hook.  Over the years, she made numerous items to sell or give as gifts for her family and friends.  Any wedding she attended was gifted an afghan and newborns, a baby afghan.

     Zola recently celebrated her 100th birthday at a gathering that was organized by her family at the church.  She was delighted to see everyone that came to help her celebrate this special milestone.  She was a kind, warm-hearted and loving person who will be missed dearly by her family and all who knew and loved her.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her son Monte (Zelda) Damm of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Mitchel (Beth) Damm of West Des Moines, IA, and Marissa (Leszek) Marczewski of Sac City, IA; great grandchildren: Andrea Rubendall (Tyler Shipman), Alec (Evelina) Damm and Austin Damm (Maddie Minske); many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

   Zola was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Damm (1972); parents Walt and Sarah Von Ahn; twin sisters Zelfa and Zelda Von Ahn; brothers Rex (Lois) Von Ahn and Duane (Miriam) Von Ahn.

The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Sac County Fair.
