Doris Andersen, age 90 of Spencer, IA, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at St. Luke Lutheran Nursing Home in Spencer, IA. Doris Elaine Coulter was born on March 6, 1929, to parents Floyd and Berdeen Coulter (Hight) in Randolph, NE. Doris grew up in Nebraska with her parents and three siblings. They later moved to Iowa where she went to school in Spencer and graduated with the Spencer High School Class of 1946.
   On June 1, 1948, Doris married the love of her life, H. Stanley Andersen, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. This union was blessed with four daughters: Denise, Nancy, Jeannie, and Lisa. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and later, Faith Lutheran Church. Doris held different jobs throughout her lifetime but the one she was most proud of was being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a Luzier Cosmetics Consultant and worked at K&D Bootery and Lynch Drugstore in Spencer. Every year at fair time she could be found at the information booth at the Clay County Fair. Doris volunteered her time every year working as an election official for Clay County. She also served on the Spencer Library Board, was a member of the Ladies Circle at Bethany Lutheran Church, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Doris really enjoyed her role as the main make- up artist for the Spencer Community Theatre.

   Doris loved life. She loved being outside staring up at the sky while watching beautiful clouds form. She liked weather in general, everything about it. Watching birds also brought a smile to her face. While these things brought her great joy, spending time with her family and friends brought her even greater joy. Outside of family time, Doris and Stan often found time to go dancing together. They were members of dance clubs; La Danza and C.O.D. This was certainly a favorite pastime. And for the love of all things, zebras, Doris had this mastered. She collected many zebras through her years.  She also had quite the collection of Santas. It is without a doubt that Doris’ warm, caring, generous heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 70 years, Stan Andersen of Spencer, IA; daughters: Denise (Gene) Lovitt of Spencer, IA , Nancy (Steve) Letcher of Milford, IA, Jeannie (Jerry) Pippin of Cedaredge, CO, Lisa Buchan of Spencer, IA; grandchildren: Jadee Lauer, Carrie Bowden, Drew Bowden, Jake Letcher, Allison Testroet, Emily Robinson, Edward Letcher, Katie Gilliland, Andy Pippin, Elizabeth Dekker, Peter Buchan; great grandchildren: Paige and Hannah Lauer, Zofiana and Deacon Woollums, Cash and Cambrie Robinson, Kira and Logan Gilliland, Lilly Pippin, Jacob, Millie, and Clara Dekker, LeRoy Buchan; Brother,

  LeRoy Coulter of Loveland, CO sister Edna (Ed) Clarke of Simcoe, ON, Canada; many extended family members and friends.

  Doris was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Berdeen Coulter; and sister Alice Coulter, and Son-in-law, Jerome Bowden.
