Gary Snyder, age 75 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.

   Gary Norbert Snyder was born on September 10, 1943, to parents Norbert and Ethel (Detterman) Snyder in Carroll County, IA. He was baptized at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda, IA. Gary and his family were members of  St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake where he received his First Communion and was confirmed. He grew up in Wall Lake where he attended country school and then high school. Gary graduated with the Wall Lake High School Class of 1961. After graduating, he attended Kansas City Mechanics School in Kansas City, MO.

On May 25, 1963, Gary married Viola Quinn in Chillicothe, MO. They later separated. This union was blessed with nine children: Donna, Glenn, Bruce, Brenda, Mark, Luke, John, Wayne, and Marie.

   Gary spent most of his life farming. His mechanical skills and strong work ethic were an integral part of his brother and nephews milking business and farming operation.  Gary devoted his precious time to socializing and dancing, fabricating metal artwork, and fixing cars.  He loved his family and friends dearly.  Gary surrounded himself with those he held closest to his heart. He smiled when he could spend time with his many children and grandchildren, and devoted himself to them whenever he could do so.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends, whose lives he touched with his gentle nature, good humor, and kind heart.  

   Those left to cherish Gary’s memory include his children: Donna McLaughlin of Yakima, WA, Glenn (Olympia) Snyder of San Antonio, TX, Bruce Snyder of Lakewood, CO, Brenda (Tim) Baumann of Nebraska City, NE, Mark (Karissa) Snyder of West Point, UT, Luke (Jennifer) Snyder of Algona, IA, John Snyder of Merrill, IA, Wayne (Brandy) Snyder of Glidden, IA, and Marie (Jeff) Gibson of Johnston, IA; grandchildren: Tom, Kelly; Glenn Matthew; Cole, Lena; Hunter; Hayden (Katelyn), Hunter, Marcus; Jack, Eva, Leo; Dillon; Austin, Macy, Emmett, Allison; Coen and Callie; great grandson Easton Livingston; brother Leon (Janice) Snyder of Wall Lake, IA; sisters: Karen Wettengel of Council Bluffs, IA, Jolene (Leon) Brotherson of Avoca, IA, Linda (Alvin) Greve of Vail, IA, and Carmen (Joe) Cogan of Omaha, NE; many extended family members and friends.

   Gary was preceded in death by his parents Norbert and Ethel Snyder; brothers Allan and Dennis Snyder.
