Walt McClintock, age 91 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Loring Hospital is Sac City. Walter was born on February 22, 1927, to parents Roy and Mary Hazel (LaPorte) McClintock in Sac City, IA. He grew up and attended school in Sac City. When he was in his mid-teens, he became a merchant mariner hauling airplanes, tanks, and ammunition overseas aboard the Liberty ship during World War II. In March of 1946, Walt enlisted into the United States Army and was in the 82nd Airborne stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was able to tell some pretty interesting stories about his paratrooper days.
On October 14, 1943, Walt married Iva Vauble in Sac City, IA. This union was blessed with five children: Judy, Linda, Penny, Shelly and Steve. He and Iva raised their family in Sac City. Walt worked as a bricklayer most of his life and spent a lot of years working for McCorkle Construction. It was always fun listening to him talk about the different places he helped build around town as well as the state. Walt loved his family and was an amazing father. Walt was widowed after Iva’s passing in 1993. He later met and married Helen Murphy in 1996.
Walt was a kind, caring and even adventurous man. He had a motorcycle of some sort most of his life and took several trips to Colorado, Sturgis, and many other places after he retired. He rode his 3-wheel scooter in the Fourth of July parade just a few short years ago. Walt loved conversation and was sure to not miss morning coffee with the guys at Food Pride. He was such an independent person, one that refused to let old age stop him from doing things. He was always ‘on the go’. Walt was a pet lover and always had either a dog or cat as a companion in his later years. He lived a good, long life and was always so grateful for that. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Judy (Roger) Hagedorn of Spirit Lake, IA, Linda Lynch of Sac City, IA, Penny (Louie) Carnine of Sac City, IA, Shelly (Roger) Quail of Sac City, IA, and Steve (Theresa) McClintock of Duncombe, IA; grandchildren: Lori (Ben) Svedberg, Melissa Hagedorn, Jesse (Ashley) Hagedorn, Chad (Amanda) Lynch, Trent Lynch, Laura (Larry) Johnson, Nate (Amanda) Carnine, Jason Carnine, Chris Carnine, Dawn (Marcie) Quail, Ryan (Lindsay) McClintock, and Josh (Erin ) McClintock; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iva; second wife, Helen; siblings: Lester McClintock, Percy McClintock, Virginia Courter, Maxine McClintock, Georgina Auen, Betty McClintock, Marjorie Joan Leitz, James McClintock; and son-in-law Derrell Lynch.
