  Kathryn Parks, age 99 of Early, IA, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, IA. Kathryn was born on October 4, 1919 to parents Charles and Edna (Mooney) Hicks in Nemaha, IA. Kathryn was baptized in the Methodist faith.  She grew up on the family farm west of Nemaha where she attended grade school and graduated from Nemaha High School in 1937.

  In 1941, Kathryn was united in marriage to Merton Isaacs. This union was blessed with four children: Kathryn, Steven, Gloria and Beth. They later divorced. Kathryn married Wilbur Parks in 1958. They were blessed with their son Keith. Wilbur died in 1962 and Kathryn raised her family in Early, IA. At the age of 50, Kathryn attended Western Iowa Tech in Cherokee, IA and graduated with her LPN degree in 1973. She worked as an LPN up until her retirement in 1999.

  Kathryn was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Early. She was a Sunday school teacher, historian and part of the outreach committee.  Some of Kathryn’s favorite things to do were gardening and reading. She also liked to sew and do needlework. Kathryn loved her family and being a part of her children’s lives. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, friend and most of all, a loving mother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

  Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Kathryn Wimer of Storm Lake, IA, Steven Isaacs of Storm Lake, IA, Gloria Rice of St. Louis, MO, Beth Rowlet of Storm Lake, IA, and Keith Parks of West Des Moines, IA; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.

  Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Edna Hicks; husband Wilbur Parks; brothers Milton Hicks and Russell Hicks and sister Arlene Coats.
