Macel Janssen, age 83, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. Macel was born on September 28, 1935, in Schaller, IA, to Gerald and Fae (Harris) Niceswanger. She grew up in the Sac City area and attended grade school in Nemaha and Sac City, graduating from Sac City High school in 1953.
On June 6, 1954, Macel was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Marvin “Jiggs” Janssen, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. They were blessed with four children: Janet, Jerry, Joni and Jennifer. They made their home in Sac City where Macel worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for Loring Hospital. She was an amazing typist. In 1980, Macel switched job locations and they moved to Sioux City and then later, in 1999, returned to Sac City where Macel worked another 10 years for Loring Hospital.
Macel and Jiggs enjoyed traveling together; you could always find them going out for a drive. In her free time, Macel enjoyed cross-stitch and quilting, she made all of her children quilts. She loved to read and scrapbook photo albums. Macel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by those who loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 64 years Marvin “Jiggs” Janssen of Sac City, IA; children: Janet Lewis (Dennis Lawyer) of Indianola, IA, Jerry (Chris) Janssen of Sioux City, IA, Joni (Donnie) Rench of Norwalk, IA, and Jennifer (Jeff) Boland of Plano, TX; grandchildren: Nicole (Aaron) Giddings, Justin (Jessica) Lewis, Lindsey (Tim) Laielli, Jill (Richard) Jeffords, Michael Janssen, Jason (Ashley) Rench, Ashley Rench, Hailey and Macey Boland; great-grandchildren: Caleb, Mallory and Nolan Giddings, Eden, Charlotte and Henry Lewis, Emery and Toni Laielli, Devin, Alee, Ashlynn, Logan and Dominic Jeffords, Tregan, Jacob and Cameron Janssen, and Alexander and Zoey Rench; and other extended family members and friends.
Macel was preceded in death by her parents.
