Maurine Mohr peacefully passed away at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA, on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
Maurine Evelyn Hess was born on September 9, 1924, on the family farm south of Ulmer, IA, to parents Fred and Minnie (Mohr) Hess. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer on November 16, 1924, by Pastor Edward Wittkopp and confirmed there by Pastor Elmer Fritz on August 20, 1939.
She received her education at Country School Sac #3. After completing eighth grade she helped her parents on the farm where she learned to can many jars of jams, sauce, and bake many goodies.
Maurine was married to Ralph Mohr at the Peace Lutheran Church parsonage on February 18, 1947. After their marriage, she played the organ at Peace Lutheran Church. When Peace Lutheran closed, she and Ralph transferred their membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, IA. Maurine taught Sunday School, was an active member of the Ladies Aid serving as the secretary, and participated in many LWML events. Maurine belonged to a ladies card club and also Zion Couples Club. She also enjoyed quilting at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View with her fellow quilter friends.
Shortly before Ralph passed away in 2009, Maurine sold the acreage and moved to Lake View. She lived in Lake View, and Wall Lake before moving to Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. She enjoyed the many activities at the nursing home, especially bingo, and getting items off the shopping cart. She also enjoyed playing with the Emmanuel Kitchen Band. She loved her family and enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maurine loved music. At Christmas, before gifts could be opened, Christmas songs had to be sung. As she got older, singing time got longer. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Mohr; parents Fred and Minnie Hess; in-laws Otto and Adah Mohr; sister Marjorie Frank; brother-in-law Raymond Frank; and grandson Corey Frehse.
Maurine is survived by her children: Sheryl (Jerry) Frehse of Carroll, IA, Darwin (Linda) Mohr of Omaha, NE, and Deb Mohr of Wall Lake, IA; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
