Leona Schulte, age 92, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. Leona Jennie (Mohr) Schulte was born on March 8, 1926, at home on the farm in Breda, IA, to parents William and Frances Mohr. She attended grade school up to 8th grade at the Sac District #3 country school which was a half mile north of her home where she grew up. She was baptized at the age of eight at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer, IA and was later confirmed. Leona was the youngest of six children and they all worked on the farm and attended Lutheran church regularly as a family.
On August 31, 1946, Leona was united in marriage to Alvin Schulte at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer, IA. This union was blessed with two daughters: Barbara and Arlene. Alvin and Leona felt fortunate to have enjoyed a loving marriage of 63 years before Alvin’s passing in 2009.
Leona enjoyed going out to eat and trying new foods, cooking, traveling and reading. She loved being outside and working in the yard. Being an avid church goer, Leona’s favorite spiritual song was “Heaven Is My Home”. Leona was a hardworking woman throughout her life and enjoyed the time she spent with her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Barbara (Larry) Bundt and Arlene Ummach; eight grandchildren: 21 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Leona is preceded in death by her husband Alvin on June 20, 2009; parents William and Frances; four brothers and their spouses; one sister and her spouse; son-in-law Ed Ummach and great-grandson Tyler Ummach.
