Joseph “Joe” Phillip Fischer, age 70, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Joe was born on July 12, 1947, to August and Maurine (Anderson) Fischer in Carroll, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake where he remained a lifelong member.
Joe graduated from Wall Lake High School with the class of 1965. Following graduation he was inducted into the United States Army serving his country in Vietnam. He completed his education with an Associates Degree in Business after he completed his military service.
On December 16, 1978, Joe was united in marriage to Jody Arneil at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. This union was blessed with three children: Andrew, Beth, and Jessica. They made their home in Wall Lake.
Joe loved the land, farming, working the fields, especially harvest time, and working with Neil Bluml. He liked staying fit, exercising regularly and lifting weights. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting pheasants in the fall with his dog. Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. He called his kids everyday in order to stay in touch and find out what was going on with them. He was a devout Christian attending mass regularly.
Survivors include his wife, Jody of Wall Lake; his children: Andrew (Tracy) Fischer of Emmetsburg, IA, Beth (Corey) Freymiller of Cottage Grove, MN, and Jessica Fischer and fiancé Brian Serocki of Falcon Heights, MN; six grandchildren: Morgan, Allison and Joe Fischer, and Kate, Abby, and Carly Freymiller. Other survivors include his sisters: Walburga Poole of Redlands, CA, Maurine (Pat) Shields of Omaha, NE, and Mary Ann (Steve) Tjaden of Lake View, IA; brothers: Augie Fischer of Parker, CO and Bill (Barbara) Fischer of Marstons Mills, MA; sisters-in-law: Jackie (Rick) Meister of Lake View, IA, Janine (Stan) Krause of Tulsa, OK, Julie (Rick) Cole of Riverside, IA, and Jayne (Craig) Stairs of Kansas City, MO; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Violet Damico and Virginia Fischer; sister-in-law Wendy Fischer; and brothers-in-laws: Joe Poole and Arthur Damico.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his name.
