Johnny Wirtjers, age 63 of Sac City, IA, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
John Allen Wirtjers was born on March 30, 1959, the second of seven children to parents John L. and Patty (Lynch) Wirtjers, at Loring Hospital. He grew up in Sac City where he attended school. Johnny was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City.
Johnny was married to Renae Ringgenberg and they were blessed with three children: Brandi, Buster, and Blake. They later divorced. Johnny worked for the family business, Wirtjers Trucking/JW Ready Mix & Construction until 2004. He drove truck and then moved on to the ready-mix and large equipment operator side of the business. In fact, Johnny had a big hand in building many of the area’s ready-mix plants. He was a mastermind when it came to designing blueprints for such things. Johnny had a brilliant mind, was very talented, and was capable of doing so many different things. Most recently he built an elevator in his home so he could easily get to his train room in the basement.
Johnny was a ‘collector of all things’ but certain things caught his eye and captured his heart more than others, including trains, fire hose nozzles, old toys, and especially his roller coaster, he LOVED that thing! As for the people he talked into riding it…. well, let’s just say he usually had his fun with them once they were on it! As much as he loved all of his ‘stuff’, he loved his kids and grandkids even more. They would tell you there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. He loved it when the grandkids would visit the farm and several of them helped dig post holes for the beautiful white fence that surrounds the whole farm. He always liked things to look nice and neat which is evident as the farm is just that.
Johnny liked to have fun, there’s no doubt about it and ‘ornery’ just may have been his second middle name. He was a bit of a prankster and always knew how to make people laugh. His loud laugh, ornery ways, and big heart will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children: Brandi Wirtjers of Sac City, IA, Buster Wirtjers (Jodi) of Lake City, IA, and Blake (Teresa) Wirtjers of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Bailey Blass, Riley, Kaley, and Coltley Timmerman, Oakley Wirtjers, Kaden Ramthun, Kyla and Krusher Wirtjers, Skyler and Fletcher Wirtjers; mother Patty Wirtjers of Sac City, IA; siblings: Jody Wirtjers, Jimmy Wirtjers, Jeff Wirtjers, Angie (Jason) Kreft, and Beth (Kristen) Wirtjers all of Sac City, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, John L. Wirtjers; infant sister Roxanne Wirtjers; paternal grandparents Fred “Buster” and Christine Wirtjers; and maternal grandparents Derrell M. and Janice Lynch.

“Our deepest condolences to Patty, to Johnny's children and the entire extended family. Seeing this picture I can hear his incredible laugh after he called out to " Joe Joe". Always enjoyed our conversations especially the time I chastised him for dusting me while mowing. He came back rather sheepishly to apologize and asked about "Joe Joe" and then that laugh. Hoping thousands of happy memories flood you heart with peace and a measure of comfort.”
