Mary Aschinger, age 54, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, following a lengthy battle with cancer.  Mary Edith Hemer was born at Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove, IA, on November 7, 1962, the 9th of 13 children to Roy Clarence and Shirley Helen Oxendale Hemer.  She was baptized November 2, 1969, and confirmed May 29, 1977, at Faith Lutheran church in Odebolt.  Mary grew up near Arthur, IA graduating from Odebolt-Arthur High School in 1981.  She pursued her passion for cutting and styling hair, graduating from Faust Institute of Cosmetology in Storm Lake in 1982.

On June 16, 1984, Mary was united in marriage to Bradley Dean Aschinger at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt.  They made their home in Wall Lake and were blessed with three children: Amber, Brandon and Amanda.  Mary was very proud of her kids, attending many high school sporting events, especially those of her children.  She enjoyed going on walks; bike rides; and spending time outdoors.  She always made time for friends and family whom she cherished.  She especially loved being a grandma to her two grandsons, Weston and Charlie.

Mary was a generous donor to numerous organizations and groups in the community, especially various groups involving local schools, and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.  She ran a very successful cosmetology business, Country Cut-N-Style, for 35 years where she not only cut people’s hair, but built very special friendships and touched many people’s lives.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Brad Aschinger of Wall Lake; her children: Amber Aschinger of Sioux City, Brandon (McKayla) Aschinger of Breda, and Amanda (Nick) Buse of Lake View; her two precious grandchildren, Weston Buse and Charlie Aschinger.  Other survivors include her mother Shirley Hemer of Arthur; siblings: Ann (Bernie) Onnen of Schaller, Joe (Eileen) Hemer of Waverly, Peggy (Garry) Anderson of Sierra Vista, AZ, Lee (Karen) Hemer of Odebolt, Jan (Charles) Schug of Ida Grove, Jay (Sue) Hemer of Arthur, Kris (Rick) Schroeder of Odebolt, Don (Tami) Hemer of Arthur, Carl (Roxie) Hemer of Odebolt, Bonnie Hoefling of Sioux City, Dave (Diane) Hemer of Arthur and Jean (Hagen) Ludwig of Breda; her parents-in-law Veryl and Jody Aschinger of Wall Lake; Brad’s sisters and brother and their spouses: Deb (Bill) Brotherton of Wall Lake, Craig (Lynette) Aschinger of Wall Lake, and Trish (Mark) Freier of Lake View; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Roy C. Hemer (April 2000); and nieces: Colette Marie Hemer (July 1976) and Quincy Elizabeth Ludwig (October 2007).

“My heart goes out to all of you. My memories with Mary as my hair stylist and friend go back many, many years. She was a treasure of a person with a warm heart, her sparkly personality, great advice and overall just being a fantastic woman. She helped me in so many ways many beyond the haircut and style, but in helping me grow as a person. She helped make memorable events special in making sure I looked my best. She braved through a first haircut for our boy with autism, who didn't know what was going on (nor did we at that time). She was truly a blessing! God graced everyone who had the opportunity to know her. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you (Brad, Amber, Mandy, Brandon and the rest of the family) at this time. May the comfort of knowing she is in God's loving hands help to ease you through this difficult time. ”
