Fred Jury Bruns, age 93, of Sac City, IA, passed away on September 14, 2017, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Fred was born on October 4, 1923 to parents Theodore and Tollie (Gerdes) Bruns in Wall Lake. He attended country school near Wall Lake and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Fred grew up working on the farm and then enlisted to serve his country in the United States Navy on May 14, 1943. He was honorably discharged on February 27, 1946. Fred fought in World War II Pacific and achieved the ranking of Seaman 1st Class.
On September 1, 1945, Fred was united in marriage to Doris Fern Streed in Chicago, IL. This union was blessed with three children: Sandra, Fred and Steven. They raised their family on the farm from 1951 to 1962 and then Fred worked at Moorman's Feed as a salesman for three years. He later got a job at William’s Milling Co. and spent the next 19 years there before retiring in February 1983.
Fred kept busy by doing the things he loved. He enjoyed carpentry but his passion was fishing. Fred took many trips with his family to Minnesota to fish. He was always the happiest when he had his children and grandchildren around him. Fred will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Left to Cherish Fred’s memory are his children: Sandra Weitzel of Audubon, IA and Fred T (Rosey) Bruns of Sac City, IA; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister Anna Cowlham of Odebolt, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris; son Steven (Cheryl) Bruns; son-in-law Don Weitzel; great-granddaughter Samantha Weitzel; brothers: Ted, Walt and Bert; and sisters Sena Siebrecht and Tillie Cutler.
