Dorothy Mae Hout, age 93, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, IA. Dorothy was born on May 19, 1924, to Cecil and Iris (Essick) Johnson. She grew up in the Marathon area and attended rural Pocahontas County Schools. Dorothy was confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Lytton, IA on November 14, 1943. On September 9, 1941, Dorothy married the love of her life, Percy Hout in Jackson, MN. They were blessed with four children: Linda, Jerry, Jim and Judy.

Dorothy and Percy made their home in the Fonda/Jolley area, where they farmed. Dorothy loved being a wife, homemaker, and mother and she took pride in working by Percy’s side on the farm. They later retired in 1986 and moved to Sac City. In her free time, Dorothy did cleaning and enjoyed crocheting and baking. She was a mother to many and was always helping those in need. She had a warm heart that reflected her personality with her common saying of “bless your heart”. Dorothy will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Linda (Francis) Madsen of Pocahontas, IA, Jerry (Kathy) Hout of Sioux Falls, SD; son-in-law Bruce Theesfeld of Grundy Center, IA; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Helene Johnson of Lake City, IA; and many extended family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by parents; husband Percy; son Jim Hout; daughter Judy Theesfeld; granddaughter Abbie Marie Hout; and siblings: Darrell, Harry, and Allen Johnson and Elnora Larson.

“I noticed the obituary for Dorothy in the Lytton Town Crier, and want to extend my condolences to her family. Her daughter, Linda, was a classmate of mine. No matter how long a parent has lived, it's a fond, yet sad, farewell to connection you've had for a lifetime. May the memories of her that pop into your minds bring smiles and joy of a good long life. ”

“To Linda, Jerry and families,
We are so sorry to hear about Aunt Dorothy. I have many fond memories of her. She was my favorite Aunt on Dad' s side. My memories of staying at the farm, driving the tractor, feeding the animals and watching and helping her bake have been a big part of my childhood memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families during this difficult time. May God give you
strength and peace in the days ahead. She will be truly missed. Bob and Kathi”

“I have many many fond memories of Dorthy. When I was younger I loved playing cards with her and Percy. I always enjoyed talking to her as I grew up. I did her snow every winter and she always had a plate of goodies waiting for me which was always payment enough. I will miss her deeply. I am unable to attend services but send my condolences to all her family which she was always fond of and I enjoyed hearing about them. ”
