Mitchell Johnson, age 26, of Lake View, IA, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 21, 2017, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA.  Mitchell was born on September 21, 1990, in Lake City, IA, to Marlin and Candi  (Leighter) Johnson.  He was baptized December 23, 1990, at the United Methodist Church and confirmed at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View. He was involved with his church youth group and participated in Y-SALT (a mission group that worked community service for underprivileged families).

Mitchell attended Wall Lake View Auburn elementary school and graduated from East Sac County High School in 2009. Mitchell was one of the first male members of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). He continued his education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA., and was part of the Triton Golf Team in 2010.

Mitchell was an enthusiastic sports fan, following the Green Bay Packers, ISU sports and the Chicago Cubs.  He enjoyed playing basketball, golfing, and fishing, especially enjoying his family trout fishing vacations in Northeastern Iowa where he caught three trophy trout through the years.  Mitchell loved to sing and performed in plays and musicals in both high school and college and had been a member of a Christian Praise Band and the Lakes United Methodist Church Choir.  He had a love and passion for cooking, which his family also enjoyed. Mitchell was an active scout in the Lake View Boy Scout Troop 195 and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed reading old books, especially those pertaining to history, outdoor lore and philosophy.

Mitchell was working as a sales manager at the Sears Store in Carroll, IA, at the time of his passing. He enjoyed sales and talking with the customers. His unique smile and laugh made him a very likeable person.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to mourn his loss include his parents, Marlin and Candi Johnson of Lake View; his sisters: Tara (Jon) McDonald of Kansas City, MO, and Mandi Johnson of Lake View; grandmother Nelda Leighter of Lake View;  niece and nephews: Parker, Hadleigh and Beckett McDonald of Kansas City, MO; his aunts and uncles: Robin (Heath) Carroll, DelRay Leighter, Darin Leighter (special friend Cindy), Alan (Mavis) Johnson, Karen (Kirby) Fields, and Mike (Debbie) Johnson; cousins: Kyle Carroll, Jami (Tom) Huster, Quentin Leighter, Alicia Leighter, Lance Fields (special friend Diane), Wendy (Jeremy) Brown, Jennifer (Doug) Otto, Jesse (Jennie) Fields, Steve (Lauren) Johnson, and Chris Johnson; extended family members and many friends.

“Michael spoke up for his candidate in the presidential race about eight years ago. I was impressed. He was young and not old enough to vote. He would be old enough to vote by November of that year. Marlin, Candi, and family, you should never forget all the good memories of him. Your memories will not fade. Take courage and remember the good. ”

“I was so sorry to hear of Mitchell. I really liked him. He was friendly and smart and was a good employee for us at the Sears Store in Carroll. I know he was a member of a Christian praise band for some time and he talked about the things of God. I believe he's in the presence of God Himself now where there is no longer any pain, but only joy forevermore. This should cause us all to pause and consider what (and who) is most important in life. I wanted to give you, his family, our sincere condolences on his passing. Dan and Barb Gold ”
