Duane Robert Buehler, age 74 of rural Odebolt Iowa went to his eternal home on November 21, 2015 at Horn Memorial Hospital. Duane was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church.
Duane was born June 27, 1941 in Sac City, Iowa. His parents were Robert W. Buehler and Marjorie Marie Rabe Buehler. Duane grew up on a farm north of Odebolt, the Stephen place, and later moved to the Ralph Rabe farm, which was honored as a Century Farm in 2013. Duane attended grade school at Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt Arthur in 1959. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Farm Operations in 1963. ISU held a very special place in his heart. While there, he was active in the marching band. There he joined ROTC and later the Iowa Air National Guard. Following graduation he was employed as a Youth Director for ISU in Plymouth County, which he enjoyed very much and kept in contact with many of those youth.
On November 10, 1963, Duane married the love of his life Donna Mae Stiles at the Odebolt Methodist Church. To this union 3 children were born, Karen Marie, Jeffrey Dean and Brian Duane. In 1967 Duane and Donna moved to their present farm, one mile from where he grew up. In 1968 Duane was called to Active Duty with the 185th Air National Guard and spent a year in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Duane farmed with his Dad and brother Roger and now son Brian and nephew Barry. Duane believed in farming practices to save the land. Buehler Farms received the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader award in 2013.
Duane also believed in community service. He served as high school Sunday school teacher, on the Methodist trustee and finance committees and presently was chairman of the Methodist administrative board. Currently, he was a director for the United Bank of Iowa and Sac County Mutual Telephone Co. board of directors, served on the Memorial Walk Way, and was a trustee for Richland Township. Earlier years, he served on Farm Bureau state committees and beef and pork organizations.
Duane was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always had time for neighbors and friends. His grandchildren were very important to him and gave him much joy. Duane and Donna also enjoyed exploring area bike trails on Sunday afternoons.
Left to cherish Duane’s memory are his wife Donna of 52 years; children Karen Pippett (Brad) of Urbandale, Iowa, Jeff Buehler of Ida Grove, Iowa; and Brian (Jenny) of Odebolt, Iowa; and grandchildren Tera and Kendra Pippett of Urbandale, Iowa, Sydney Buehler of Ida Grove, Iowa, Noah Buehler of Crested Butte, Colorado, and Kesed and Karis Buehler of Odebolt, Iowa. He also is survived by sister Jeanine (Bill) Davidson of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Roger (Ellen) Buehler of Odebolt, Iowa Aunt Mae Rabe Christian and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Those going before Duane were his parents, Robert and Marge Buehler, parents-in-law Ted and Leona Stiles, and brother-in law Merle Hokanson.
