Dennis Edmund Bengford was born in Carroll, IA, on May 28, 1939, to his loving parents, Joseph and Helen (Dinges) Bengford.  He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Martins Catholic Church in Odebolt, IA, where he remained a lifetime member.  Dennis attended grade school at St. Martins Catholic School in Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt High School with the class of 1958.

On June 27, 1964, Dennis was united in marriage to Malinda Hilda Reik at the St. Martins Catholic Church in Odebolt.  This union was blessed with six children: Jackie, Tami, Michele, Brad, Dee Dee, and Jeff.

Dennis worked hard to provide for his family.  He owned Skelly Service Station and Tank Wagon, worked at the Odebolt Elevator as well as CPS.  No matter what he was doing, he always made time for his family and cherished his grandchildren.  He was always talking to his brothers and sisters on the phone.  Dennis had a love for camping and grilling outside for family gatherings and was a big Denver Broncos fan.  He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife Malinda; sons: Brad (Jennie) Bengford of Odebolt; Jeff (Kari) of Tea, SD; daughters: Jackie (Scott) Sorensen of Sioux City, IA; Tami (Tom Hansen) Bengford of Odebolt, IA; Dee Dee (Terry) Jackson of Sioux City, IA; brothers: Leonard (JoAnn) Bengford; Paul (Darlene) Bengford; Frank (Sandy) Bengford; sisters: Mary Van Scoy; Dorothy (Jim) Barkley; sister-in-law Darlene Bengford; grandchildren: Chase and Samantha Sorensen; Shane, Shawn, and Tabitha Bengford; Colin, Owen, and Wyatt Bengford; Brittany, Shelly, Mallory, and Cody Jackson; Max, Abby, and Ruby Bengford; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

“Malinda and family. I just watched all of the online tribute to Denny. He was my buddy back when I was in grade school when he was in high school with my sister Bonnie. Dave Wilken and I were just talking about how we enjoyed being part of the "inner circle" on the chairs at the D&D station. We always enjoyed having a drink with the Denny and Tank and the gang on Thursday night at the Country Club and the Bowling Alley. I saw Denny at the School Reunion this last June at Creek Days and it was like I had just seen him the day before. I am glad I was his friend and his customer. Denny always treated his customers like his friends. I really felt a loss when I learned of you and your family's loss. ”

“I extend my deepest sympathy to Dennis' family. I was saddened to read of his death and you are all in my prayers. When I think of Dennis I remember a story my dad, Bud Sonksen, told. My parents were caring for our 4 children, a dog, and 2 horses while we moved to Texas. Dad rode our grey Arabian bareback into the Skelly station car bay and asked Dennis to change the oil. They both had a good laugh! Many people have good memories of Dennis. ”

“Dear Malinda and Family - Uncle Denny will always be in our heart . He was so kind thoughtful and funny! I will never forget the day he called us the day before Keith was going to have his surgery ... knowing how serious this was .. He just kept reassuring us that his angel Shelly was going to look after Keith during this time and the praying chain was on our side . He was truly a special man and we love him ! Love You All”
