Marcia Cady, 79 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, surrounded by her loving family.
Marcia Kay Powell was born on September 15, 1946, in Oskaloosa, IA, to parents John and Lois (Hull) Powell. She grew up on a farm just outside of Eddyville, IA, alongside her two brothers. Marcia attended school in Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School with the Class of 1964.
Following high school, Marcia worked at a sewing factory for a time and later as a waitress at a restaurant in Oskaloosa. It was there that she met a regular customer by the name of Harley Cady. After he dinged his spoon on his coffee cup enough times to finally catch her attention, Marcia conceded and agreed to go on a date—a moment that would begin a lifelong love story.
Marcia and Harley were united in marriage on April 4, 1970, at the First Christian Church in Sac City. They were blessed with a daughter, Melissa, who would join her older brother Joe at home.
Throughout her life, Marcia worked at many familiar places in Sac City, including the old A&W restaurant, the egg plant, she provided in-home daycare for several years, Coast-to-Coast Hardware, the grocery store, and finally Loring Hospital, where she worked in the kitchen for many years until retiring at the age of 75. Marcia dearly loved her coworkers, and they loved her right back. She especially enjoyed teaching the younger employees how to cook and bake, always happy to share her knowledge.
If you knew Marcia, you knew she followed local sports faithfully. She loved watching her grandchildren compete and continued attending local sporting events long after they had graduated. She was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Marcia enjoyed staying on the go and was a wonderful baker and cook. She and Harley enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and did a bit of traveling.
Marcia was a member of Wa Tan Ye and was very active in Disciples Women at her church. She served as a deacon for many years as well. Marcia was known for speaking her mind—you never had to guess what she thought. She could be stubborn at times, but she was also deeply faithful and devoted to serving others. She cared greatly for people, always wanted to help where she could, and was immensely proud of her family.
Marcia will be remembered for her strong spirit, hardworking nature, generous heart, and unwavering love for those around her.
