Genevieve Horst, age 98, of Auburn, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA.
Genevieve Marjorie Tebben was born on February 25, 1927, near
Carnarvon, IA, to Andrew and Annie (Herrig) Tebben. She grew up on a farm near Carnarvon, attending country school before later attending Lake View High School.
On August 25, 1946, Genevieve was united in marriage to Ubbo Horst. To this union two children were born, Marilyn and Nancy. Together, they raised their family on a farm near Wall Lake, where they worked side-by-side farming and building a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. In later years, Genevieve worked in home health care, compassionately serving others in the community. She also was a cook at the school in Auburn.
She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn. Genevieve found joy in crocheting, embroidery, and sewing, and she was well known for her exceptional baking—especially her pies and rhubarb cake. No one ever left her house hungry, she made sure of it. She also enjoyed gardening and took pride in tending to her flowers and plants.
She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
