Jack Boyd Stone, age 83, of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born on September 27, 1942, the second of six children born to Truman and Dorothy (Spoo) Stone, on a farm near Churdan, IA. He attended country school in Lytton, IA, and in 1954 attended school in town. Jack and his family then moved to Sac City, He graduated from Sac City High School in 1962.
On July 31, 1965, Jack was united in marriage to Joan Willert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City. They were blessed with two children, Jeff and Jane, and together made their home in Sac City.
Jack worked for many years for the Sac City Community School District, where he both maintained and drove school buses. If you ever rode on his bus, you certainly know what his famous line was. Jack was a hard worker who took pride in doing his job well. After retiring from the school district, he continued to stay active by driving semi and gravel trucks for area businesses. During that time, Jack often took his grandson Blainne on the road with him, which brought them both a lot of joy.
Family was always at the center of Jack’s life. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and he enjoyed attending their events and activities. He also had a lifelong love of antique tractors and took part in area tractor rides with friends and fellow enthusiasts. Over the years, Jack collected many promotional pens and small calendars that he liked to ‘decorate’ his shop with. He loved and appreciated life in his small town and the lifelong friendships he made. He will be dearly missed by his family and by all who knew and loved him.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joan Stone of Sac City, IA; children Jeff (Shannon) Stone of Sac City, IA, and Jane (Chuck) Morris of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren Emily Morris, Blainne Stone, and Matthew Stone; siblings Virginia (Jon) Minnmann of Sac City, IA, Earl (Jackie) Stone of Sac City, IA, Butch (Nancy) Stone of Wall Lake, IA, and Bev Lake of Alamogordo, NM; sister-in-law Judy Kruckenberg of Lytton, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Dorothy Stone; brother Dan Stone; grandson Harrison Morris; parents-in-law Harvey and Eloise Willert and Anne Willert; brothers-in-law Mark Lake, Ron Willert and Larry Kruckenberg.

Jack’s wishes were to have a private graveside service which his family will be honoring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Swaddling Clothes c/o St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1112 Bailey Street, Sac City, Iowa 50583 in Jack’s memory.

“Joan and family, So sorry to hear of your husband/father's death! I remember talking with you at the Mohr reunion in Carroll a few years ago! We talked about LWML and how your daughter Jane was District President! Great memories! I'm sure you have many happy memories of your years together! Your father Harvey was my first cousin! His mother and my mother were sisters! I don't remember her as she died very young! My sincere sympathy to all of you! ”
