Kathleen “Kate” Duncan, age 75 of Sac City, IA, formerly of Spencer, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at her home in Sac City. Kathleen Ann Clinton was born on January 5, 1949, to parents Lyle and Edith (Ellis) Clinton in Carroll, IA. Her family lived in various places throughout her childhood. Kate attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Early and then Crestland High School, where she graduated from in 1967. She then attended Larson School of Cosmetology in Spencer, IA, for two years and became a licensed beautician. Kate had a shop in Sac City for several years.
On April 28, 1973, Kate married the love of her life, Doug Glen Duncan, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. They later moved to Ankeny, and then Elkhart before settling in Spencer. There, Doug served as Chief of the Spencer Fire Department and Kate worked for the city in the utility department both in billing and later as the safety compliance officer.
Kate loved sewing and quilting and was always making beautiful things for everyone, including the neighborhood kids. She was a very talented seamstress. She loved being home and was an avid reader. Kate and Doug golfed some and also took a trip for their twenty-fifth anniversary out to Lake Tahoe. The two of them were also members of Kiwanis for several years. Kate was a 4H leader for many years, a role she thoroughly enjoyed because as a child she was always involved in the program, showing Jersey cows in area county fairs.
Kate was a loving, sweet and caring soul who always wanted to help others and people in need. She had a huge heart and gentle smile that will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Duncan of Sac City, IA; sister Mary (Dave) Suchorski of Ankeny, IA; brothers-in-law Dale (Sue) Duncan of Sac City, IA, Dennis (Jean) Duncan of Granger, IA, and Cleo Kitt of Sac City, IA; sister-in-law Glenda (Bob) Olerich of West Des Moines, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
