Johanna Black, age 72 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at her home in rural Sac City. Johanna Francina Black was born on April 2, 1952, to parents Antoni and Elizabeth (Herrmsen) Evers in Deventer, Holland/Netherlands. She grew up in Deventer where she attended and graduated from school.
In 1972, a United States Army soldier who was stationed overseas by the name of Lowell Black, caught her eye. On December 7, 1973, Johanna married Mr. Black in Holland after realizing he was indeed the love of her life. After getting married, the couple moved to Florida and their first daughter Caroline was born. Lowell was then stationed in Germany where they were blessed with another daughter, Rebecca. The Army then sent the family back to the United States and Lowell was stationed in Texas. It was here that their son Lowell, Jr. was born. The family then moved back to Germany, then Texas, and finally in Germany again which is where Lowell finished and retired from the United States Army.
After Lowell’s retirement, the family moved to Lorimor, IA, where they lived for ten years before moving to an acreage southwest of Sac City in 1996. Johanna absolutely loved their home and the acres that surrounded it. She always had a huge vegetable garden and looked forward to planting her beautiful flowers every spring.
She kept herself busy doing things such as knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, and just crafting in general. She was an avid reader who loved a good book and liked listening to classical music. Johanna was fluent in German and also spoke French. She was a great cook and liked to bake. Having a large garden of course always led to a busy end of the summer canning all of the produce that was harvested.
Johanna was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was so happy to have each and every one of those titles. Her family meant the world to her and spending time with them is what truly made her the most happy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Lowell Black of Sac City, IA; children Caroline Black of Roland, IA, Rebecca Black of Auburn, IA, and Lowell Jr. (Joanne) Black of Webster City, IA; grandchildren: Leslie, Brenna, Micaila, Jami, Sarah, and Brandon; great-grandchildren: Oliver, Luka, Addilaide, Emmaline, Elijah, Ainsley, Owen, Jordon, Hudson, Brooklyn, and one more on the way; many extended family members and friends.
Johanna was preceded in death by her parents, Antoni and Elizabeth Evers; brother Toni; sisters Elizabeth and Francisca; and parents-in-law Clarence Jr. and Alma Black.
