Dave Yohnke, age 72 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. David Gus Yohnke was born on July 23, 1951, to parents Albert and Wilma (Carpenter) Yohnke in Carroll, IA. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake where he was a life-long member. He grew up on a farm just outside of Wall Lake and graduated from Wall Lake High School with the class of 1969. After graduation Dave attended trade school in Council Bluffs, IA, to become a licensed mechanic.
On July 24, 1971, Dave married Peggy Lee Tuttle in Council Bluffs. This union was blessed with five children: Daniel, Samantha, John, Keith, and Joe. Together Dave and Peggy raised their family in Wall Lake. Dave worked for Tommy Johnson Chevrolet and later at Domino Motors, both in Sac City, as an auto mechanic. He then worked at Albrecht Oil & Feed in Wall Lake until he retired at the age of fifty-nine.
Dave loved amateur radio and belonged to M.A.R.S. (Military Auxiliary Radio System) as well as other ham radio groups. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, woodworking, and gardening. Above all though, Dave was a family man who enjoyed every minute spent with his loved ones. He was soft spoken and quite intelligent. His friends and loved ones are quite familiar with his wry smile. That smile, amongst so many other things about Dave, will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Peggy Yohnke of Wall Lake, IA; children Samantha Yohnke (David Blaney) of Wall Lake, IA, John Yohnke of Sioux Falls, SD, Keith Yohnke of Ames, IA, and Joe Yohnke of Shenandoah, IA; daughter-in-law Tammy Harris of Boone, IA; grandchildren Nathaniel and Benjamin Yohnke, Alexander Zobel, Tyler Rasmussen, Abraham and Gabriella Yohnke; brother Fred (Jo) Yohnke of Ida Grove, IA; sisters Virginia Marx of Azle, TX, Eileen (Merle) Halter of North Platte, NE, Janet (Larry) Mueller of Avilla, IN, Mary Beth Fastje of Des Moines, IA, and Suzanne (Paul) Rucker of Marshall, AR; many other extended family members and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Wilma Yohnke; son Daniel Yohnke; grandsons Sean Yohnke and Daryl Zobel; and brother Warren Yohnke.

“I remember Dave working at Albrechts Oil and Feed when Dick Reiter owned and managed it. He was the man behind the scene that brought the business in and was always busy....as I remember there were several cars waiting to been fixed. He was a quiet man, but hard working. To the family, my sympathy at your loss. In a small way of mechanics, Dave made a Big Impact.”

“What a nice, kind man and an even greater mechanic. When electronic technology took over pickup engines, I had spent over $200 having a problem diagnosed electronically. Still had problems. When at Albrecht's Station, I told Dave about it. He pulled a 10 cent piece of tin from his pocket - plugged it in - read a code on the dash - looked it up in a manual - blew out a small filter with air - problem solved. NO CHARGE ! I always valued his opinion.”
