Roger Glasnapp, age 88, of rural Lytton, IA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on February 8, 2021.  Roger was born on June 5, 1932, to parents Richard and Emma (Kreft) Glasnapp near Yetter, IA, from where he rode his pony to country school, attended Lake City High School, and graduated in 1950. Roger married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Lasher, on March 9, 1952, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Sac City, IA, the church in which he had been baptized in 1932, and confirmed in 1946, and was a lifelong parishioner.  Roger & Marlene were blessed with four children:  Renee, Timothy, Robin, and Dana.

After his marriage, Roger farmed 5 miles southeast of Lytton, where the family lived until 1973 when Roger and Marlene purchased a farm 1 mile south of Lytton.  This past fall, Roger was still farming alongside his grandsons, Caleb and Joe.

In 1962, Roger and Marlene bought Laverne “Dutch” & Beulah Segebarth’s truck line, operating the newly named Glasnapp Transfer, providing “Almost Perfect Service” from West Virginia to Montana.  In 1995, Tim & Sharon purchased the business, with Roger continuing to truck until retirement.

Roger lived life to the fullest - and usually fastest - his CB handle being Wheelspinner. He anchored Lake City High’s mile relay team to victory at the state meet in 1950. In the early ‘60s, as an outrider on his horse “Gambler”, he’d tear around the dirt racetrack as part of Harold “Jeff” Whited’s chuckwagon racing team.

Another hobby he loved was tractor-pulling, using his Chevy 454-powered Farmall M hotrod tractor “Too Bad”, and through the years he and Marlene made many lifelong friends.  In 2003, Roger was inducted into the Iowa Tractor Pulling Assn. Hall of Fame, of which he was a founding member.  An announcer for many years at the Sac Co. Fair tractor pull, he’d tell jokes when there was a lull in the action, which produced laughter, chuckles, or groans.

Loyal Hawkeye fans, Roger and Marlene attended many bowl games – Go Hawks!

A big supporter of Lytton, he’d use his four-wheeler to line up entries for the Gala Days “Big Parade”, and would support the town in numerous other ways.  The highlight of his day was going to Sparky’s for coffee.

Those left to cherish Roger’s memory are his wife of 68 years, Marlene; children:  Renee (Steve) Stauter of Lake City; Tim (Sharon) Glasnapp of Lytton, Robin (Paul) Qualy of Lake City, Dana (Beth) Glasnapp of Oskaloosa, and Duane Segebarth of Lytton, who is like a son; grandchildren and their children:  Heidi Haden, Sofie; Luke Haden; Peter (Kibinesh) Haden, Rikki; Amanda (Jim) McAtee, Alex, Ava, Katherine & Blaine; Tonya (Josh) Maske, Emily, Cooper & Maylea; Steve (Beth) Stauter, Haley, Brody & Merle; Audrey Stauter (Chad Kost), Maddy; Caleb (Joelle) Glasnapp; Cody Heun, Cohlter; Caleb Heun; Joe (Stephanie) Glasnapp, Kase & Waverly; Seth (Angela) McCaulley, Emma, Lucy & Jax; Patrick (Erin) McCaulley, Calvin & Scarlett; Emily Qualy, Nolan; Jake Qualy; Quinn Glasnapp; Gunnar Glasnapp; Blake (Crystal) Segebarth, Hank, Otis & Rudy; Shane Segebarth; and Chase Segebarth; brothers Myron Glasnapp and Gail (Judy) Glasnapp; sisters-in-law Janene (Willis) Shuey and Linda Lasher; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Willis and Dickie; sisters-in-law Sue Lasher and Marjorie Glasnapp; and brother-in-law Lonnie Lasher.

“Dear Marlene & family, So saddened to learn of Rogers passing! He was certainly a compassionate and faithful neighbor to our family and especially to my mother in her later years. He would routinely stop to check on Marge to make sure all was well. In my early years growing up I recall the two couples enjoying playing cards with the others, each alternating being the host. The family friendship that you both shared was greatly valued by all in our family! Sincerely, Tom & Mary Robbert”

“Psalm90:10 "The length of our days is seventy years - or eighty, if we have the strength," Roger was blessed with such strength and more... don't think we can ever share Lytton stories without including Roger somehow...Brian and I count it as a true gift to have known Roger and his great kindness he always showed my dad, Ron. Hugs to you all as you mourn Roger's absence. I vision the smile on his face as he tells us all to "Keep on trucking!" Brian and Kari Lantz”

“I am the daughter of Ruben Korte. We lived about a mile southeast of you from 1954 until 1965. My memory of your family is when Dad would help you shell corn. He would bring home some of that corn and we would celebrate that very evening. Dad would fire up the number 8 black iron skillet. It was popcorn, and it was yummy! We thank you for that great memory of Glasnapp popcorn. ”

“Sincere sympathy to Marlene and all the Glasnapp family. Growing up in Lytton & St. Peter's church, the Schofield boys loved to walk beans with Roger. We loved Roger's stories, his laughter, and he always helped us catch up if we lagged behind. He would always encourage us to get to 10:00 am by promising us Marlene's chocolate chip cookies and Mountain Dew...that was the best. What a faithful friend to us throughout all the years. We thank God for Roger, and will truly miss him.”

“Roger spoke the truth and was an honest Christian man. He was a strong supporter of St Peter's Lutheran Church just like his dad and mom, Rich and Emma. He was a hard working and excellent farmer who was a careful caretaker of his land, and he was a dependable trucker/owner of Glasnapp Transfer for many years. Roger knew how to play hard too being a standout track runner in high school, being an outrider in chuck wagon races, and then participating and winning many tractor pulling contests with his Corvette engine installed in his "H" Farmall tractor. He was a role model for so many of us. Marlene, the Glasnapp family, his many friends and relatives, and the Lytton Community lost a good one.”
