Carole Hanke, age 84 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, IA.  Carole Marie was born on February 7, 1936, to parents Herbert and Alice (Kirkpatrick) Schultz.  She grew up on a farm, on the north side of Lake View, and graduated from Lake View High School in 1948.  After graduation, she continued her education at a business college in Omaha, NE.  Carole was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, where she was a life long member.

Carole was united in marriage to Dean Nelson in 1957, and they were blessed with a son, Rick. In 1959, after a tragic boating accident on Blackhawk Lake, her husband Dean passed away.  As a single mother, Carole continued to work and live in Lake View where she met Robert Hanke, and they were later married in Las Vegas, NV, in 1978.  With this marriage, Carole gained three stepchildren: Scott, Jeff, and Jodi.  Carole worked various jobs including at the Dodge dealership and then at the Variety Store, both in Lake View.  When Rick was little, she helped out with the activities he was involved in and was also the Little League secretary when he played.

In her free time, Carole loved to garden and can her vegetables.  She enjoyed playing cards with friends, especially the game pinochle, and was a member of the Ladies Aid at the church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Rick Nelson of Lake View, IA; stepsons: Scott (Lisa) Hanke of Carroll, IA, and Jeff Hanke of Lake View, IA; stepdaughter Jodi Brady of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Jessica, Brooke, Paige, Joshua, Jamie, and Jill; five great-grandchildren; and other extended family members and friends.

Carole was preceded in death by her first husband Dean Nelson; second husband Robert Hanke; parents; and sister Donna Johnson.
