Ruth Palmer, age 93 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 29, 2020, in Hospice at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Ruth Arlene Johnson was born on September 22, 1927, to parents Edward and Hedvig (Willodson) Johnson in Britt, IA. She graduated in 1945 from Britt High School where she was the majorette of the band.
On May 27, 1945, Ruth married the boy she met in third grade who came to town from the country school wearing overalls. She went home and told her mom he was cute! This young boy’s name would be Keith Palmer. Ruth and Keith were blessed with three children: Vicki, Connie, and Larry. The couple moved to Sac City in 1958, where they raised their family. Ruth was employed as the office manager at Loring Hospital, and Keith was a teacher and coach for the Sac City Community School District. When she wasn’t working you could find her on the golf course, or playing bridge. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Ruth was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City where she was involved in the Ladies Circle. “In The Garden” was by far her favorite hymn. She also volunteered a lot of her time to the Sac Country Club and Loring Hospital Auxilliary.
Above all, Ruth was a devoted wife and mother. Her family meant the world to her and it showed. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Keith Palmer of Sac City, IA; daughters Vicki Palmer (Warren BoBo) of Sac City, IA, and Connie (John) Greenlaw of Fort Collins, CO; son Larry (JoAnn) Palmer of Courtney, BC; three grandchildren: Leland (Caroline) Palmer of Vancouver, BC, Robin (Lindsey) Wilson of Victoria, BC, and Andy (Whitney) Greenlaw of Fort Collins, CO; six great-grandchildren: Linden, Oliver and Benjamin Wilson, Kai Lopatowski, and Gracie and Marley Greenlaw; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Hedvig Johnson; brothers William, Harold, and Rudy Johnson.
A private family gathering will be held on December 5, 2020. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Britt, IA.
The family would like to thank everyone for their many kind thoughts, deeds, and prayers during this difficult time. Memorials can be directed to Loring Hospital Auxilliary or Oak Terrace Estates, both in Sac City, IA.
