JoAnn Bromley, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa. JoAnn was born to Luella (Fagan) and Clarence Carmean on September 7, 1926, of Lytton, IA, the youngest of four children. She was baptized on April 9, 1939, at the Lytton Presbyterian Church in Lytton, IA. She graduated from Lytton High School in 1943 and completed Business College in Marshalltown, IA, in 1945. Following Business College, she moved to Storm Lake, IA, where she worked at a law office.

JoAnn married Gerald Robert Galbraith at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Sac City on December 11, 1944, and this union was blessed with four children: Barbara, Jeanette, Gerald II and Timothy. JoAnn and Gerald farmed until Gerald passed away in 1972.

In 1974, JoAnn married Sherman (Doc) Bromley of Lake View, IA. At that time she worked in the office at Loring Hospital and as the librarian at the Lake View Public Library. Doc and JoAnn enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. With this marriage came five adult step-children: Kenneth, Dennis, Greg, Marsha and Jeff Bromley. Doc passed away in 1982.

JoAnn always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was active in her church, from days of teaching Sunday school through attending Bible studies. She was also active in Eastern Star. When her family was growing up she enjoyed baking. Sunday dinner often consisted of a roast in the cast iron roaster and homemade dinner rolls. A special treat was her homemade cinnamon rolls. A few activities that she enjoyed throughout the years were scrapbooking, dancing, playing cards, playing board games, reading and jig-saw puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling with family and going on bus tours with friends.

In the summer of 2016, she moved from Oak Terrace independent living apartments, where she had lived for sixteen years, to Park Place Assisted Living. In the fall of 2016, she moved from Park Place Assisted living into Park View Rehabilitation Center, and in 2019, she moved to Twilight Acres.

“I'm deeply sorry for your family's loss. I work at Twilight Acres, and had a special relationship with, Joann. When taking care of her I would always always sing. One day she looked up at me with her beautiful smile and eyes, and said so softly..." I could listen to you sing all day" I will never forget her. She was very sweet and kind. I will miss her very much. ”

“JoAnn was always such a lady! We loved having her as a member of our church family during the years she was at Oak Terrace and could participate in worship. Our sympathy goes out to Barb and Jess particularly, who we have come to know better through our quilting hobbies. Condolences to all the family members. May God flood your minds and hearts with sweet memories.”

“Absolute wonderful Lady that fostered a thousand questions for me at the Library, always would borrow books from other libraries for whatever hair brained thing I was researching. She always bought popcorn and whatever I was selling for the Boy Scouts. A fond memory of my youth. She will be missed.”
