James “Jim” Frisbie, age 78 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at UnityPoint Health Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA.  James Leslie Frisbie was born October 27, 1941, to parents Lee and Ina (Vauble) Frisbie in Lake View.  He joined a family of four older sisters: Verla, Bonnie, Norma, and Judy, followed later by younger siblings, Karen and Jerry.  As a child he enjoyed playing baseball.  He worked several jobs as a teenager and proudly bought his first car while in high school.  Jim was a member of the first graduating class of the newly consolidated Lake View Auburn High School  in 1960.  He remained in contact with his classmates over the years and always enjoyed attending his class reunions.  Following graduation, he joined the Army Reserve unit at Sac City.

Jim married his high school sweetheart, Janet Olerich, on September 4, 1964.  They first lived in Lake View where Jim worked in the city electrical department.  In 1966 Jim and Janet moved to Sioux City where Jim enrolled as a student at Nettleton Business Training.  There he earned a degree in accounting.

Jim proudly became a father on November 26, 1966, with the birth of his son, Jay.  The next two years were very busy while he attended classes, worked part-time, and enjoyed his new role as a father.  In 1968 the couple and their son moved to Lake View and pursued jobs in Carroll.  Daughter Jodi was born on March 7, 1970.  Jim worked for many businesses as an accountant/office manager over the years, namely Bliss Tire/Bauer Built in Carroll and Tjaden Oil Company in Lake View.  Jim was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.  He served on the city council for two terms in the 1970’s, part of which he served as mayor pro-tem.

Jim and Janet enjoyed time spent with family and friends over coffee, playing cards, on fishing vacations, and family trips.  A special trip with family was the celebration of Jim and Janet’s 50th anniversary to Sea Island, Georgia.  In his retirement he started golfing, a sport he learned to love (and sometimes hate).  He spent many afternoons at Spring Lake enjoying the friendship of those who played each day.  He also may have stockpiled one of the largest local collections of golf balls retrieved from the roadside ditch.

Jim was a proud father and grandfather who attended many sporting events, musical performances, state tournaments, and graduations.  He was the chief family pancake chef, and a competitive game of cribbage was always a part of every family gathering.  He enjoyed outdoor time keeping his vehicles clean and manicuring his lawn.  He spent indoor time in his favorite recliner enjoying westerns, golf, the Pickers, and the Gaither Vocal Group on TV.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years; son Jay (Trina) of Elkhorn, NE; daughter Jodi (Kevin) Reese of Carroll (formerly of Scott City, KS); grandchildren: Haylee, Hannah, and Hunter Frisbie of Elkhorn, NE; sisters: Bonnie Reida of Lincoln, NE, and Judy Bromley and Karen (Vernon) Van Meveren of Lake View: sisters-in-law Earlene Frisbie of Carroll and Beverly Srdar of Las Vegas, NV; and thirteen nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Holly Kaye Frisbie, and his siblings and their spouses, Jerry Frisbie, Verla and Jim Johnston, Norma and Darrel Obman, his brother-in-law, Kenneth Bromley, an infant brother, Frederick, and a sister in childhood, Verna.  Also preceding him were Janet’s parents, Virgil and Ethel Olerich, and his nieces Jann Meyer and Candy Bartlett.
