Lorri Thomsen, age 61 of Rockwell City, IA, formerly of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Israel Family Hospice Home in Ames, IA, surrounded by her family. Lorri Ann Mandernach was born on November 29, 1958, to parents Lloyd and Burnice (Davis) Mandernach in Sac City. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. Lorri grew up and attended school in Sac City along with her five siblings. She graduated from Sac City High School with the Class of 1977. After graduating high school she attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA, where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Accounting.

Lorri was blessed with two daughters, Suzanne and Sara. On November 30, 2002, Lorri married Michael Thomsen in Reno, NV. This union gave her two stepdaughters, Jennifer and Kristi. Lorri and Mike made their home in Rockwell City, IA. She was the bookkeeper for their trucking business, Dreamchaser Transport. Over the years, she and Mike were able to see the country together coast-to-coast as she would often ride shotgun in the semi. They planned their trips/hauls according to where they wanted to go and often times ended up unloading/reloading in Texas so they could see family while there.

One of Lorri’s favorite things to do was to hop on the motorcycle with Mike and hit the road. Together they enjoyed many road trips and had fun visiting a lot of different places. They loved riding to Sturgis, SD, to see the beautiful scenery it has to offer. She was quite good at sewing and loved to quilt. Lorri took a lot of pride in her home and endured a remodel. Her favorite part of course was getting to decorate afterwards, she always enjoyed decorating.

Lorri’s family meant the world to her. While she enjoyed many things in life, nothing brought her as much joy as spending time with her adored grandchildren. She loved them dearly and for sure left an imprint on their hearts. Lorri’s cancer diagnosis less than a month ago may have brought her earthly body to sudden, unexpected rest, but her eternal life in Heaven now is surely glorious. Her life will be forever celebrated by those she has left behind.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mike Thomsen of Rockwell City, IA; daughters Suzanne Nelson of Manson, IA, Sara (Brian) Winkelman of Bancroft, IA, Jennifer (Joshua) Westphal of Cypress, TX, and Kristi (Danny) Leonard of Pflugerville, TX; grandchildren: Cheyenne and Ava Nelson, Bentley and Jase Weimer, Grace and Garrison Winkelman, Lila and Abby Westphal; siblings: Lin Mandernach of Sac City, IA, Lloyd Jr. (Joy) Mandernach of Sac City, IA, Lee (Natalie) Mandernach of Sac City, IA, and Larry (Karen) Mandernach of Grimes, IA; sister-in-law Molli Mandernach of Lake View, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; aunts: Nelma (Red) Byriel of Lytton, IA, and Ramona Davis of Lakeville, MN; many other extended family members and friends.

Lorri was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Burnice Mandernach; and brother Lance Mandernach.

“To All of Loriís Family, I send my sincere condolences. My mother, Phyllis Richardson, would be so sad to hear this news. She spoke so often of Lori and her family with such fondness. I have many great memories of the Mandernach family from my childhood.
The tribute for Lori is just beautiful and demonstrates the beautiful life Lori built for her family and herself. I know you will all feel the void her loss brings and I pray that you will all find peace knowing she is with the Lord. I am so sorry you lost her so quickly and at such a young age.
May God watch over each and everyone of you,
Colette Richardson Sippel”
