Vera Brower, age 90 of Early, IA, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, IA. Vera Jeanette Kleist was born on March 4, 1929, to parents Paul and Bessie (Dearth) Kleist on a farm near Newell, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Schaller, IA.
Vera grew up in Schaller with her parents and five siblings. She attended grade school there and graduated from Schaller High School. After graduating, Vera attended beauty school in Sioux City, IA. Upon completion, she returned home and opened a beauty salon in Early named The Primp Shop, that she owned and operated for forty-six years.
On April 29, 1950, Vera married Lloyd Platt in Carroll, IA. This union was blessed with three daughters, Linda, Janene, and Lisa. Together they raised their family in Early. Lloyd passed away in 1980. On December 23, 1995, Vera married Wayne Brower at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha, IA. Vera and her daughters welcomed Wayne’s four children, Karla, Arlin, Doug, and Richard into their family with open arms. They felt blessed to now have a blended, larger family.
Vera loved life and all that it encompassed. She had a love for travel and at one time was a tour guide for a local travel agency. In the spring and summer, you could find her outdoors in the garden. Vera was a devoted Girl Scout leader for many years in Early. She was almost always up for a trip to the casino and throughout her life these trips were something she really enjoyed. Over the years she not only worked in her salon, but also provided her services to Farber & Otteman Funeral Home as a hairdresser. A few other things Vera liked to do in her spare time included crossword puzzles and ceramic work. She painted many ceramic nativity sets over the years.
While Vera enjoyed so many things throughout her lifetime, nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family. She was so proud of all of them. She adored becoming a grandma for the first time and then eventually a great-grandma. Her warm, caring, and loving ways will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
