Arla Gould, age 91, of Spencer, IA, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, at St. Luke’s Home in Spencer, IA.  Arla was born on July 10, 1927, to parents Hugh and Susan (Brooks) Jones.  She grew up on a farm north of Linn Grove and attended grade school at Rossie Schools. She graduated from Peterson High School where she starred on the girls’ basketball team.

On October 23, 1948, Arla was united in marriage to Robert Bryson Gould in Jackson, MN. Arla was very involved in her community.  She was a member of the Friday Art/Card Club and American Legion Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the Meadow Township Community Club where she thoroughly enjoyed decorating doors for the Clay County Fair.  Arla loved to bake and will forever be remembered for her famous chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

Arla was a member of the Langdon United Methodist Church where she was involved in several church activities including United Methodist Women and God’s Portion Sale Evangelism.   She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.  Her beautiful smile and sense of humor will always be remembered.

Those left to cherish Arla’s memory include her children: Deb Leake of Spencer, IA, Becky Gould of Spencer, IA, Rita (Tim) Smith of Webb, IA, Bob D. “Both your mom and dad were dear friends of my parents and lead similar lives working hard on the farm and raising their families. I know my mom, Arlene cherished her friendship with Arla because they went way back to the high school days of playing basketball together- I think t was my mom's most dear experience as she would often talk about it. I do believe Arla and Arlene are in heaven now playing again together. ”

“As my grandmas passed away while I was still in middle school. Having a relationship with Aria as an adult allowed me to really know what it was like to have a grandma. I.will never forget her quirky ways and friendly smile and great cooking. She will be missed.”

We have many fond memories of your parents as our neighbors and enjoyed many wonderful meals prepared by your mother when we were exchanging help on the farm. Your Mom was always so glad to see Becky whenever she would see her, always ready for a conversation. Take comfort in knowing that she is now with your Dad. We are so sorry we wonít be at her service as we are in California, but will be thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. Mark and Becky Schmid”

“My love and deepest sympathies to each of you as you say your final goodbye to your mom. It hardly seems possible that our parents are all gone. Our families sure shared a lot of fun times together when we were kids; Fourth of July parties, front yard ball games, card parties, etc. I can almost hear all their laughter still. Let your motherís light and gifts shine through each of you. Peace to each of you.”
