Boyd Rodman, age 93, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA. Boyd was born on March 13, 1925, to parents Virgil and Bernice (Stanzel) Rodman on their farm near Sac City. Boyd could tell stories about breaking horses for his father who was a horse trainer and how his father would always say: “Son, get back on that horse!”. He was raised around horses and loved riding them.
Boyd attended Country School for two years and then attended school in Early, IA. He graduated from Early High School with the Class of 1942. Shortly after graduating, Boyd enlisted into the United States Navy and fought during World War II.
On October 5, 1953, Boyd married Velma Grace Corderman-McCallister in Elk Point, SD. He and Velma made their home in Sac City where Boyd was employed by Sac County as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon, a trustee, and an usher. He loved to go fishing in his spare time, as well as gardening and woodworking. Boyd retired in 1990 which meant he had even more time to go fishing, again, something that he absolutely LOVED to do!
Later on in life, Boyd was in need of some care at home in order to be able to stay in his home, which is what his wishes were. Prior to him moving to the nursing home, Tina Lamaak and ‘her girls’ cared for Boyd daily for over 10 years. They were like family to him and if asked, they would say the same thing about Boyd…that he was like family to each and every one of them. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Marilyn Phillips of Sac City, IA; several step grandchildren and their families; many extended family members and friends.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Bernice Rodman; wife Velma Rodman; sister Verda Mackeprang and two infant sisters; stepdaughter Dorothy (Robert) Riedell; and stepson-in-law Duane Phillips.
