Shirley Staton, age 84 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.  Shirley Iris Swieter was born on August 19, 1933, to parents Adolph and Emma (Haack) Swieter in Lake View, IA.   Shirley grew up in Lake View and was baptized and confirmed at Lakes United Methodist Church.  She graduated from Lake View High School with the class of 1951.

On February 6, 1954, Shirley married Leo Staton at Lakes United Methodist Church.  This union was blessed with a daughter, Valerie.

Shirley worked as a teller at the Bank of Lansing for 14 years until the birth of their daughter.  She was a wonderful mother and wife who loved unconditionally.  She encouraged ideas and adventures while keeping a realistic view.  Her love and devotion will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed but her precious memories will live on.

Shirley enjoyed playing cards and was involved in many bridge and card clubs through the years.  Her creative talents were seen in her paintings, sewing and baking. She was an avid bingo player and during her prime would be found playing games several times throughout the week.  Leo and Shirley, together, shared a passion for travel. During their marriage they traveled to almost every state in the nation and several provinces in Canada.  Camping  was something Shirley loved doing with her family as well.

Her life was forever changed when she was blessed to be called Grandma.  The time spent with her 3 grandchildren, Makenzie, Joshua and Addison, were her most cherished moments.

Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her husband of 64 years, Leo Staton of Sac City, IA; daughter Valerie (Mark) Hartman of Merrill, IA; grandchildren Makenzie Drost (fiancé Robbie Thomsen) of Dakota City, NE; Joshua Drost of Merrill, IA; Addison Hartman of Merrill, IA; many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Emma Swieter; brother Howard Swieter; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
