Don Charles Wellington, age 60, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Unity Point Hospital in Fort Dodge, IA.  Don was born on July 12, 1957, in Sac City, to Gerald “Tuffy” and Glenrose “Rosie” (Hoff) Wellington.
Don grew up in Sac City where he attended elementary school and later graduated from Sac City Community High School in 1975.  He continued his education at Iowa Central Community College, graduating with an AA in Business in 1979.

On August 14, 1981, Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Annette Eischeid in Halbur, IA.  They were blessed with three sons: Adam, Ben and Cody.  They made their home and raised their children in Sac City.  Don and Annette were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where Don was a Eucharistic Minister, Usher, Grand Knight and Director.

Don worked at American Home Shield in Carroll, IA, for six years and prior, worked at Ameriprise Financial for more than 20 years.  He enjoyed photography, woodworking, gardening, grilling and cooking.  He loved to fish, especially when it was with his boys and grandkids.  Don was also an avid sports fan and could be found cheering on the Cubs, Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes.  He dedicated his time in the past to being a volunteer fireman, a member of  Knights of Columbus and coaching little league baseball for 18 years. He currently served on the Sac Community Education Foundation Board. Don loved attending his children’s activities throughout school, and later on never missed his grandchildren’s milestones.  Spending time with family and friends were always a highlight and he cherished the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.

Don’s most important role in his life was being a devoted and loving husband, great father, and dedicated grandfather. His life was like his camera – he focused on what was important, captured the good times, developed from the negatives, and if things didn’t work out – just take another shot.

   This isn't good-bye, it's see you later.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Glenrose Wellington and nephew Chris Connell.

Those left to cherish many wonderful memories include his wife Annette Wellington of Sac City, IA; sons: Adam (Leslie) Wellington of Japan, Ben (Kara) Wellington of Sac City, IA, Cody Wellington (Katelyn Sikkema) of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Evan, Adeline and Vincent Wellington, and Sawyer Wellington; brother David (Charlotte) Wellington of Cody, WY; sisters: Jan (Bill) Connell of Mesa, AZ, Nancy (Steve) Full of Norfolk, NE; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

“Dear Annette and Family,
My friend in Sac City, Chip Colburn, forwarded news today of Don's death. I'm so very sorry. I lost my husband 20 years ago. It does get better--it takes time and hard work, but there are gifts along the way. I hope they find you. Wishing you support, strength, faith, and patience--with yourself as well as with others; that's sometimes hard.

“To a dedicated man, in our community, school, church, friends, family and wife. I remember the last time running into to Don. I recall not so long ago Annette and Don outside caring for their home flower pots. I happened to glance and smile he was out enjoying life. No one knows each other’s struggles, we respected his privacy, but in my own ways still tried to encourage him and let him know he was cared about! Our Heavenly Father planned him on Earth for 60 years! Hard to let go but know we all will see you again! Our deepest sympathy Wellington family and friends during this grieving time....hugs!
