Donald Harris, age 68, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Fonda Specialty Care in Fonda, IA, with his wife and youngest son at his side.
Donald Glenn Harris was born on September 13, 1949, in Sioux City, IA, to parents Arthur and Luella (McKinley) Harris. He moved to California with his family and spent all of his teenage years and beyond there. He loved the ocean and spent a lot of time surfing it while in California.
Donald enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps in February of 1967 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. He was honorably discharged in December of 1970, as a Vietnam Veteran.
On July 10, 1997, Donald was united in marriage to Tina Klein in Santa Ana, CA. They lived in Orange, CA, and raised their family there until moving to Sac City in search of a slower paced way of living.
Donald loved his San Francisco 49ers and was sure to catch every game when televised. He loved working on car and truck engines with his son, Edward. Donald was a pit crew member to NHRA driver Dyno Don Nicholson, who he became very close friends with. Later on in life, he watched the NHRA Drag Racing Series in the comfort of his Iowa home.
Most of all, Donald loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was very well known for always being there to help his kids as well as their friends when needed. Whether he had much to give or not, he always found a way to help them out. Donald really liked his cats and was good at spoiling them, especially his favorite, Sophie. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Tina Harris of Sac City, IA; children: Johnathan Harris of Sac City, IA, Edward Harris of Orange, CA, and Jay Harris of Bella Vista, AR; step-children: Matthew Luce of Sac City, IA, and Daniel Luce of Las Vegas, NV; many extended family members and friends.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Luella Harris; brother, Raymond Harris.
