Rosella Nehring, age 87, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.
Rosella Gerdina Anna Peters was born on March 5, 1920, to John and Allie (Meyer) Peters north of Ulmer, Iowa. She was baptized by Rev. Otto Hoffman on June 6, 1920, and confirmed by Rev. Alvin Gall in April 1936, (her confirmation verse was St. John 6:66-69) at the Carnarvon Presbyterian Church where she became a member. Rosella attended Sac #2 Country School.
On February 4, 1953, Rosella was united in marriage to Delwin Nehring by Rev. John Roose in the Peters home. Her mother and sister Ruth were also married in the same house. They moved to the family farm in Cedar Township in 1953. In September of 1953 she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City, where she and Delwin were team Sunday school teachers for 11 years for the three year old children. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women and served as Deacon for two terms.
Rosella loved working on her family history and helped the Sac County Genealogy Club filing obituaries since 1983. She was also a member of the Just Neighbors Club.
She enjoyed her flower garden and large vegetable garden. She baked and decorated cakes for birthdays, graduations, weddings, and any other occasions for many people. She had all kinds of hobbies and did a lot of crafts and crocheting for gifts and other times, always helping others when needed. She was known for having a camera in her hand, since she was sixteen, and took many pictures. Rosella was a devoted wife, working side by side with Delwin on the farm, building, painting, and always helping with the field work.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Delwin in 1995; and sister Ruth Schoenthal.
Survivors include her nephew Merle LeRoy Schoenthal of Lake View; niece Nadine Meeks of Fort Washakie, WY; many great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. Other survivors include her brothers-in-law, Merle Schoenthal and Nate McKenna, and sister-in-law, Marcella Ehlers all of Storm Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City with Rev. Matt Milligan officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemeter under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home in Sac City.
