George, the son of Chris and Elizabeth (Bettin) Blass, was born August 22, 1916, at Early, IA, where he resided all his life. He was a graduate of the Early Consolidated School.
He married Jean Peterson at the Methodist Church in Correctionville, IA, on April 1, 1950. To this union four children were born: Christy, Chuck, Juli and Lori.
George has been a member of the Early United Methodist Church for 57 years and the Sac County ASCS Committee for 25 years. He served on the boards of the Farmers’ Home Administration for three years, Loring Hospital for ten years, and Crestland Community School for nine years.
George loved to farm, continuing his passion till the age of 87. He was an avid bowler and liked to “putt” around on the golf course. Playing cards with friends and family was a lifelong enjoyment. Not being a travel enthusiast, annual Okoboji trips brought the family together where George could be seen go-carting still at the age of 90! Other family trips included California, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii, Jamaica, and Florida where he loved the oranges and lemons.
Those thankful for having George in their life, include loving wife, Jean; children and their spouses: Christy and Dick Swenson of Lake View, Chuck Blass of Early, Juli Blass and Jim Lynum of Silverthorne, CO, and Lori and Brian Blass-Adams of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Barb and Cory Weber, and son Brayden; Jenny and Jimmy Stock, and son Gunnar; Ashley Blass; Erik Blass; Callie Blass; Ché and Tiffany Lynum, daughter Telana and son Kai; brother Delmer Blass and Jackie of Early; sister Marjorie Blass of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Mae Blass of Sac City, Annabel Camarigg and Bonnie Kummer both of Correctionville, and Nyla and Mark Markusen of Long Beach, CA; brothers-in-law: Roy Headid of Sioux City and Chuck Peterson of Correctionville; many nieces and nephews; extended family members; “adopted granddaughter”, April Peterson; and many friends.
