Eileen L. Hass

Eileen L. Hass, 85, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2008, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.

Eileen was born on November 7, 1922, in Fonda, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Marjorie (Schnarr) Bartels.  She grew up in the Lytton/Fonda area, graduating from Fonda High School and business school in Omaha, Nebraska.  On October 17, 1942, Eileen was united in marriage to Emmett Gesy in Nevada, Iowa.  To this union one child was born, Barbara. Emmett was killed in Belgium while serving his country during WWII.  Eileen found love again and was married to Dale E. Hass on March 13, 1947.  They made their home near Sac City where Dale farmed.   Three children were born to this union: Susan, Charles, and Bette.

Eileen worked hand in hand with Dale on the farm helping in anyway she could.  She was not afraid of hard work and enjoyed raising a large garden to help with the family’s needs.  She cherished her children and as they grew and had families of their own, she spent lots of time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She cherished their visits and was very proud of them all.  Eileen enjoyed playing cards, board games, and later traveling with the bank.

Survivors include her children: Barbara Romine and husband Robert of Palatine, IL; Susan Worth and husband Wally of Sac City; Charles Hass and wife Mary “Tina” of Omaha, NE; and Bette Pore and husband Robert of Grand Island, NE; 12 grandchildren: David (Karen) Romine, Mark (Teri) Romine, Kara (Mike) Grubbs, Brian (Ximena) Romine, Natalie (Cory) Witt, Erin (Terry) Neville, Bob and Amanda Pore, Aundrea (John) Bricker, Angela (Steven) Johnsen, Tamara (Terry) Gebhardt, and Rebecca (James) Hall; 13 great-grandchildren: Ted and Katherine Romine, Jerad and Kyle Romine, Cassandra Prescott, Carly Grubbs, Jonah, Isabella and Noah Bricker, Esten Johnsen, Hailey Hall, and Alexa and William Neville; extended family members; and friends.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Emmett Gesy and Dale Hass; infant sister; brother LaVerne Bartels; and grandson Robert M.  Romine.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 11th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City with Rev. Matt Milligan officiating.  Burial will be at Cory Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the church from noon Friday until service time.
