Dana Buckley
Dana was born in Sac City on January 12, 1922, the son of Laud Preston and Margaret Mary (McAfee) Buckley. He lived in Sac City his entire life except for the time spent in the Army, graduating from Sac City High School in 1940. In December of 1942 Dana was inducted into the U.S. Army serving during WWII, earning the rank of T.V. Sgt. on the completion of his service in September of 1945. Before he left to serve his country, Dana was married to Mildred “Dea” Van Horn in South Sioux City, Nebraska on December 17, 1942. To this union four children were born: Jerry, Nancy, Ann, and Beverly. Throughout the years Dana worked as a mechanic for Liechty’s, Tommy Johnson Chevrolet, and Lambi Motors. He enjoyed going fishing, trap shooting and hunting. He was a devoted husband and wonderful father and grandfather. Dana was “One of a Kind” person, he had a big heart and would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. Those thankful for having been a part of his life include his children: Jerry (Stephanie) Buckley of Lytton, IA; Nancy (Gerald) Spanjer of Lake View, IA; and Beverly Wiebers of Monticello, IA; 10 grandchildren: Amy Brayton, Greg Buckley, Kirk Buckley, Derek Buckley, Dana Drost, Denice Whipkey, Debbie Rehorst, Nikki Schallau, Chris Wiebers and Shelby Strief; and 22 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister Mildred Jons of Michigan; sisters-in-law: Frances Buckley of Sac City, Christina Buckley of Lake View; and Marion “Babe” (Bert) Wayt of Hobbs, NM; extended family members; and many friends. Dana was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dea on June 28, 2005; daughter Ann in childbirth; brothers: Raymond, Earl, and Robert; sisters: Marjorie Burk and husband Roger, Dorothy Moore and husband Keith; parents-in-law Mark and Nellie Van Horn; brother-in-law James Van Horn and wife Dorothy; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Bedell and husband LaVern, Mary Ruth Stone, Harriet Lavery and husband James. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 9th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Reverend Sharla Hulsey officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the V.F.W. Post No. 590 and American Legion Cantigny Post No. 195 of Sac City. |
